In Portland, Oregon, known for its variety of cuisine and moody coffee shops, one restaurant stood out during my visit: Kachka. Transitioning seamlessly, this restaurant features authentic Russian cuisine and showcases an extensive list of vodkas.

Kachka specializes in Russian cuisine, offering a modern and creative interpretation of traditional dishes. The menu often features a variety of Russian comfort foods, including dumplings, stroganoff, cured fish, and other delights.

I am not going to lie; I never had Russian cuisine before my visit here. I was a little nervous going into it. But after my first bite, I was hooked! Nevertheless, everything was delicious, to say the least.

Unwind at Happy Hour!

We went for their happy hour, which is offered 4-6 every day, yes, every day! This is the most affordable way to try all of their delicious food. I got the Combo Meal or Kомплексный обед, which includes a cabbage roll, cup of soup, bread & our butter, pickles, and a glass of Kompot.

However, you should pair that with their signature Moscow Mule. As a result, your happy hour will be set!

The restaurant is known for its inviting and vibrant atmosphere. The interior typically reflects a contemporary take on Russian aesthetics, creating a unique and enjoyable dining environment.

Kachka is celebrated for its diverse and flavorful menu. Signature dishes include Cold Zakuski, Hot Zakuski, and so many more.

How To Eat Like A Russian According To Kachka

Here is Kachka’s advice on how to eat like a Russian, and I think it’s definitely good advice to follow!

Step One: Cover every square inch of your table with Zakuski. Which is an assortment of cold hors d’oeuvres, entrées, and snacks in the food culture of Slavic-speaking countries. It is served as a course on its own or “intended to follow each shot of vodka or another alcoholic drink.”

Step Two: Fill everyone’s glasses with their beverage of choice. (like vodka or maybe vodka)

Step Three: Search your soviet soul for a spirited toast. When in doubt, a toast to friends, to life, or simply “Boodyim”!

Step Four: Clink. Drink. Eat. Repeat.

Finally, you can try this experience during your visit to Kachka! The Ruskie Zakuski experience is only $35 a person! All you have to do is sit back, relax, and then fill your table with various cold zakuski to start your meal. The vodka is $5 per person, and you can even add on their famous horseradish vodka for the whole experience.

Let’s Go To Kachka!
