Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Have you ever been tobogganing? I haven’t. Of course, I have done typical winter activities like snow tubing and cross-country skiing, but I have never had the opportunity to take a thrilling toboggan ride. I always felt like I was missing out!

Toboggan rides are not common in the United States, but they are in Canada. We visited Quebec City during Christmas, and as soon as I saw they had toboggan rides, I was ready to hit the track.

But as I got closer and closer, I realized this was not going to be a relaxing run. My adrenaline was pumping!

What Is A Toboggan?

A Toboggan, a long, flat-bottomed light sled typically made of thin boards, connects boards to one another with crossbars, turning the boards up at the front.

In the past, people used Toboggans to transport small loads of items or people over snow. Nowadays, people use them to take an exciting and icy ride.

The Toboggan slide we rode down was at the gorgeous Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City. It was only a few steps away from the hotel, located down a flight of stairs.

This traditional toboggan run is one of the oldest attractions in town. It is actually more than a century old and is a favorite to residents of Quebec.

How Much Does it Cost To Go Toboggan Sledding?

The first thing you will do is go to the booth to purchase your Toboggan Pass, which is only $3 per run.

You can purchase multiple runs or one at a time. It only costs $7 for four runs, so go as many times as you want.

You can purchase the tickets for toboggan sledding in advance through their reservation system, too!

How Many Passengers Per Toboggan?

You can have up to 4 passengers per toboggan. We saw families with their two kids on a toboggan.

For adults, two people per toboggan seemed to be the best. But if you are comfortable, you can fit more.

My First Toboggan Ride

Once you purchase your pass, you must wait in line for your toboggan at the bottom. The workers will hand you one when it’s your turn, and you will give them the pass in return.

From here, you will go up the stairs with your toboggan. Make sure to wear good boots, since it is very icy. They are not too heavy and can be dragged by anyone.

Once you reach the top, the instructor will have you put your toboggan in the track. From there, they will advise you how to sit, depending on if you want to be in the front or the back.

The front was way scarier since you had to control the toboggan more. If you are in the back, you get to hold on to the person in front of you, which was nice.

There are three icy runs, making it easy for multiple people to go tobogganing at the same time. You can even race your friends and family.

It was an amazing experience enjoying the view of Quebec City and the Fairmont dressed up in its Christmas colors.

How Fast is The Toboggan Slide?

I am not going to lie; the run was terrifying and exciting at the same time. We went over 40 MPH or 70 km!

When Is The Toboggan Slide Open?

The three icy runs are open from mid-December to mid-March or even longer if weather permits.

You can do your toboggan during the day at night. I was terrified during my first toboggan run, which was during the day. By night, I was ready for another round!
