Au Comptoir MarCel

Au Comptoir MarCel is a small, intimate spot tucked away in downtown Magog. The moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be a great experience. The open kitchen lets you watch Chef Marco carefully plate every dish, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere makes you want to settle in for the evening.

The menu changes seasonally and focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

You can order à la carte, but the real highlight is the six-course tasting menu. That’s what I went for, and it was worth every bite.

The Story Behind Au Comptoir MarCel

Founded by Chef Marco and sommelier Céline, Au Comptoir MarCel is a fusion of their two passions: food and wine.

Having traveled the world for over a decade, they’ve infused their menu with global influences while staying true to locally sourced ingredients.

Marco, originally from Montreal, has honed his craft by studying international culinary techniques, while Céline’s expertise in wine pairings comes from growing up in the vineyards of southern France.

The Dining Experience: A Culinary Journey

Au Comptoir MarCel offers three dining options:

The menu changes often, but here’s how you can dine:

  • À La Carte – Choose from a small but carefully curated selection of dishes.
  • Table d’Hôte – A three-course meal at a set price.
  • Six-Course Tasting Menu – A surprise multi-course experience (with optional wine pairings).

I highly recommend the tasting menu if you love trying new flavors and dishes.

That is what I did and trust me, it was worth it!

I can confidently say that after my meal here, this restaurant deserves a Michelin Star. I would not be surprised to see them earn one over the next few years.

Here is a glimpse into my evening.

A Michelin-Worthy Dining Experience

While all of their food looked absolutely delicious, the real star of their show was the Tasting Menu!

The tasting menu is 6 courses, and you can add a 4 or 6-glass wine pairing to your meal if you would like.

Each dish was mouthwatering and innovative, similar to visiting an art gallery. The wine was out of this world, paired perfectly with each dish.

The menu will start with a small plate, followed by two appetizers, two mains, and a shareable dessert.

The portions here were well worth the money; we left very full and extremely satisfied.

The creativity put into each dish blew my mind, making it one of the best dining experiences I have ever had.

I will leave each dish’s details a surprise so you can experience it for yourself.

The wines paired perfectly with each course as we sipped a variety of whites, roses, syrahs, bold reds, and more.

The staff explained each dish and wine perfectly, answering our questions and ensuring that we learned about the pairing as we went through each course.

The service was beyond, and each staff member took pride in their job and cared about the guest’s experiences.

The meal ended with a hearty and delectable dessert board, which was out of this world.

Location

Located in the heart of downtown Magog, Au Comptoir MarCel is tucked away down a small alley off the main road. It’s within walking distance of many hotels, making it a convenient and ideal choice for an evening out.

Do I Need A Reservation?

While reservations are not required, they are highly recommended—especially on weekends.

I booked a week in advance and secured one of the last spots, and by the time we arrived, the restaurant was fully booked.

Final Thoughts: A Meal to Remember

Dining at Au Comptoir MarCel was an experience I will cherish forever. The three-hour meal was worth every moment, with each dish more impressive than the last.

If you’re visiting Magog, make sure to set aside time for this exceptional dining experience.
