Hawaii has some of the freshest and most delicious food, and Jackie Rey’s in Kailua-Kona showcases that on its bright menu!
Located just minutes from downtown Kailua-Kona, this restaurant delivers bold island flavors, creative cocktails, and a welcoming atmosphere that truly embodies the Aloha spirit.
I had the chance to dine at Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill, and it quickly became one of my favorite restaurants on the Big Island.
If you’re looking for delicious seafood, tropical drinks, and a lively dining experience, here’s everything you need to know!
Jackie Rey’s in Kailua-Kona
Jackie Rey’s opened in 2004, bringing a fresh take on Hawaiian cuisine to the Big Island. Named after the owners’ daughter, this family-owned restaurant has grown into a local favorite known for its creative dishes, fresh ingredients, and welcoming atmosphere.
With a focus on locally sourced seafood and island flavors, Jackie Rey’s has two locations: one in Kailua-Kona and another in Hilo, making it a must-visit whether you’re exploring the west or east side of the island.

My Dining Experience at Jackie Rey’s in Kailua-Kona
Here is a look into my visit to Jackie Rey’s!
The fish dishes are where they shine since each fillet is prepared in-house and caught right off the coast. Their plating was impressive, with vibrant colors stealing the show.
But honestly, every plate at Jackie Rey’s was delicious! Here is what we ordered.
Appetizers (Pupus Menu)
We started with a couple of Hawaiian-inspired appetizers, and let me tell you—they did not disappoint! “Pupu” is a Hawaiian term for an appetizer, snack, or finger food.
We started with the Macnut Ahi Tartare, which had toasted macadamia nuts, ginger lime beurre blanc, wasabi sake, Kabayaki, and wonton chips.

Next up were the Crispy Pork Ribs! These fall-off-the-bone tender pork ribs were coated in a spicy Asian BBQ sauce that packed the perfect punch.

Entrees
Jackie Rey’s is known for its fresh, locally caught seafood, and their Mochiko Crusted Fresh Catch is the signature dish that I just had to try.
The most iconic dish at Jackie Reys is the Mochiko Crusted Fresh Catch.
This lightly crusted Hawaiian fish is served with Molokai purple mashed potatoes and a flavorful house-made sauce.
The type of fish changes daily, depending on what’s fresh off the boat!

Everything about this dish was incredible—the crispy crust, tender fish, and colorful plating made it one of the most memorable meals I had in Hawaii.
Cocktails & Happy Hour Specials
Pair your dishes with authentic Hawaiin Cocktails, such as the Lilikoi Martini! A refreshing blend of Helix Vodka, Rumhaven, lilikoi (passion fruit), and fresh orange juice.
Or the Kona Side Mai Tai, a local take on the classic Mai Tai, featuring silver rum, house-made Mai Tai mix, fresh lime, and a dark rum float.
Happy Hour Tip: If you want to save a few bucks, visit from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM daily for $2 off select cocktails, house wines, and draft beers!
