Two of my favorite things are visiting state parks and spending a day at the beach. Luckily, you can do both at Scarborough State Park in Maine. The state park has hikes, ocean views, and even a swimmable beach. Here is everything you need to know.
Scarborough State Park
This state park is all about the beach! Scarborough Beach State Park offers many recreational activities for visitors to enjoy, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, picnicking, hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife observation.

The park has a stretch of sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean, accompanied by sand dunes and coastal forests. It has everything that Maine is infamous for, making it a special place to visit.
Scarborough Marsh Trail
I recommend taking a stroll down the Scarborough Marsh Trail. The trail starts at the parking lot, where you will go down the long path to the beach entry.

You can go to the left or right when you go down the beach path. From here, you can walk the 3.4 miles down the beach.

You can dip your feet in the ocean or lay out on the beach. I visited in winter, and the beach was still beautiful!

Walk where the sand meets the ocean for the best views of the State Park. During low tide, you can also search for seashells and rocks!

Go Beachcombing
Scarborough State Park is a fantastic place for beachcombing, which means that visitors can search for and collect items that have been washed ashore.
These items include seashells, driftwood, sea glass, rocks, marine debris, and sometimes even treasures like coins or artifacts. Beachcombers often walk along the shoreline, scanning the sand and tide lines for exciting and unique finds.
We even saw a living Sand Dollar resting in the water.

Tidepools
You will find small tide pools nestled in the rocks. If you make a right at the end of the beach entry path, go all the way down to the end.

You can find some exciting beach combing finds here, including Maine Mussels!

Please do not take anything substantial to the environment since it is vital to preserving the state park. Instead, admire the items but keep them where they are.
How Much Is It To Visit Scarborough State Park?
It only costs $7 per adult and $6 per child to visit the State Park for the day. They offer season passes for those who plan to visit all summer long.
Where Is Scarborough State Park?
The state park is located just a short drive from downtown Scarborough. It’s also near other famous attractions along the Maine coast, making it an ideal stop for travelers exploring the region.
After exploring Scarborough State Park, I recommend driving to Cape Elizabeth, where you can get one of the best lobster rolls in Maine.
