Connecticut is a beautiful state in New England with forests, mountains, and exciting day hikes. Thanks to its warm summer weather, the state is trendy for summer adventures, which are then followed by the area’s iconic fall foliage. One trail I loved during my fall trip to Connecticut was the day hike to Heublein Tower!
Talcott Mountain State Park
Heublein Tower is located on the top of Talcott Mountain in Talcott Mountain State Park. The park has over 550 acres of scenic woodlands that shine during fall foliage.
Heublein Tower
The tower was initially built as a summer home by businessman Gilbert Heublein in 1914. It was designed by noted architect Smith Edwards and constructed using local fieldstone. The tower served as a retreat for the Heublein family and their guests.

The tower is 165 feet high and includes multiple levels accessible by a spiral staircase. Its interior once boasted luxurious furnishings and amenities.
You can drive up the road to visit Heublein Tower; however, I prefer hiking!
Talcott Mountain Yellow Trail
Take the Talcott Mountain Yellow Trail. This hike is stunning, as it takes you through the state park’s forest before arriving at the tower.
The hike is a 2.9-mile loop with an elevation gain of 439 feet. You will start from the Talcott Car Parking on Summit Ridge Road.

Once you park, you will begin your hike, initially a very steep uphill climb. This is the hardest part of the hike and is where most of the elevation gain is. Once you reach the steep hill’s top, you can continue your hike gradually.
There are plenty of lookouts and overviews for you to enjoy for the second part of your uphill journey.

Eventually, you reach the Heublein Tower! You can go inside the tower when it opens, where you can admire the old rooms of the Heublein Family. There is also an endless view of Connecticut from the top of the tower.
Pack lunch to enjoy at the top since there are plenty of picnic tables!
