Santa Fe is a vibrant and lively city in the heart of New Mexico. It is filled with art galleries, Haciendas, and various restaurants. Surprisingly, one of my favorite places to eat was not serving tacos and margaritas. Instead, it provided some of the best Spanish cuisine I have ever had. Here is everything you need to know about La Boca!

La Boca

This charming restaurant is hidden down an alley in downtown Santa Fe. The flavors of Spain and the Mediterranean inspire its cuisine, and Chef James Campbell Caruso, an eight-time James Beard Award nominee, designs each dish. The dishes include local ingredients that highlight these flavors.

The restaurant’s vibe resembles that of a European wine bar, and its wine list matches expectations. Expect a wide variety of Spanish wines and Sherries.

La Boca has been called “the most influential restaurant in Santa Fe” by the Pasatiempo Magazine and the New York Times describes the menu as ” modern re-inventions of classic Spanish cuisine”. The review lived up to the hype.

Dining At La Boca

As soon as we entered the restaurant, I felt transported to Europe. The decor showcased dark wood and vibrant paintings while Spanish music filled the room. We were lucky enough to dine while a musician played his acoustic guitar.

Tapas

You can start your meal with one or many Tapas. Tapas are small savory dishes of Spanish cuisine. They might be bread, meat, or dishes such as ham, stuffed mussels, fried squid, olives, and so much more. The Tapas Menu at La Boca was terrific, with so many options.

We tried one of the Spanish cheeses served with apricots and honey; it was a delectable combination. We enjoyed the cheese with freshly baked bread, authentic olive oil, and Spanish wine.

Paellas

Then, it was time for the main attraction: Paella. You can choose from the Paella Classica or Vegetable Paella. We did the Paella Classica, which is $30 for one or $58 for two.

It was filled with saffron rice, chicken, chorizo, mussels, shrimp, roasted red bell peppers, and English peas. The flavors were authentic and robust, and we left the dinner extraordinarily full and satisfied.

You can choose Tapas for your entire meal or mix Tapas with a Paella or a dish from the Tabla’s menu.
