The Torch Relay Race

One of the top events is the Torch Relay Race. The torch represents the spirit of the Olympic Games, carrying the message of peace, unity, and friendship as it travels from its origin to the host city. Spectators line the streets to cheer on torchbearers, creating a sense of excitement and unity within the community.

The Olympic Flame will travel from Greece to France by sea aboard the Belem, a historic French three-masted ship. It is scheduled to arrive in Marseille on May 8, 2024.

Where Is The Torch Relay Race?

The Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay will take 69 days to complete. It will start in Marseille on May 8, 2024, and finish in Paris on July 26, 2024. You can review this official route website to visit where the torch is passing through.

At the end of each day, the torch stops in a city referred to as a “celebration city,” where the Torch Relay’s marketing partners, public entities, local associations, and others organize celebrations.

The program includes sports initiations, demonstrations, activities for children and adults, and performances, all leading up to the solemn arrival of the torch, marking the end of the day.

Who Will Carry The Flame?

Paris 2024, its partners, and the official sponsors of the Torch Relay, including Coca-Cola, Banque Populaire, and Caisse d’Épargne, are currently choosing the torchbearers.

Where Is The Athletes Village Located In Paris?

The Olympic and Paralympic Village is located in the cities of Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen, and Ile-Saint-Denis by the Carrefour Pleyel subway station.

The Athletes’ Village, located near the main Olympic venues, serves as the residential hub for competing athletes, coaches, and team officials during the Games. Offering various accommodations, dining facilities, and essential services, it aims to create a comfortable and supportive environment for athletes to rest and prepare for competition.

Throughout the Games, only accredited individuals, those invited by delegations, and other project stakeholders will have access to the Village, with restrictions in place.

Can I Visit The Athletes Village?

Unfortunately, you cannot visit the Athletes Village otherwise, but you can drive past it. We passed it during our recent trip to the Paris airport.

What Will The Weather Be Like For The 2024 Olympics In Paris?

In July and August, Paris experiences warm and generally sunny weather, typical of summer. Average high temperatures range from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), with occasional days reaching higher temperatures.

It’s often a pleasant time to visit, with long daylight hours allowing for plenty of outdoor activities and sightseeing. However, it’s also worth noting that Paris can experience occasional heatwaves during this time, with temperatures soaring above 30°C (86°F) for several consecutive days.

While rainfall is generally lower during the summer compared to other times of the year, occasional rain showers or thunderstorms are still possible, so it’s a good idea to pack an umbrella or raincoat just in case.

What Attractions Are Closed for The 2024 Olympics In Paris?

The 2024 Paris Olympics will include many attractions that are closed for security reasons, including:

• Place de la Concorde: This temporary zone will have traffic disruptions from June 2024, including the closure of lines 1 and 8 on June 17, line 12 on May 17, and metro stations Concorde, Tuileries, and Champs Elysées Clémenceau
• Champ-de-Mars: This area will be closed to the public for the duration of the competition
• The Picnic area below the Eiffel Tower.
• Alexandre-III bridge: This bridge will open on September 20, 2024
• Port des Invalides: Installations will be dismantled on September 30, 2024
• Cours La-Reine: This area will open on October 15, 2024, freeing the Champs-Élysées port

Will The Louvre Be Closed For The 2024 Olympics In Paris?

Attractions, museums, and monuments will be open and accessible as usual, except for the Louvre on July 25 and 26 and the Tuileries Garden on August 28. 

Will The Seine River Cruises Be Operating?

River cruises on the Seine will continue until five days before the Opening Ceremony on July 26.

Where Should I Stay For The 2024 Olympics?

Eiffel Tower District: The Eiffel Tower district in Paris, often referred to as the “Eiffel Tower neighborhood” or “Eiffel Tower area,” is the immediate vicinity surrounding this iconic landmark. It includes parts of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, where the Eiffel Tower is located, and neighboring areas such as Champ de Mars and Trocadéro.

During our trip to Paris, we stayed at the iconic Paris Pullman for two nights. It is the best hotel for views of the Eiffel Tower.

Champs-Élysées: Located near iconic landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, this area offers a central location with easy access to Olympic venues and attractions.

Le Marais: Known for its charming streets, historic architecture, and vibrant atmosphere, Le Marais is a trendy neighborhood within reach of many Olympic venues.

Montmartre: Perched atop a hill overlooking the city, Montmartre offers stunning views and a bohemian vibe. There are plenty of cafes, art studios, and winding streets to explore. We loved our day trip to Montmartre and even walked back to the 6th from here. It was a very safe and artistic area.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés: Famous for its artistic heritage, chic boutiques, and lively cafes, this area provides a sophisticated and culturally rich setting for your Olympic stay.

La Défense: If you prefer a more modern and business-oriented atmosphere, consider staying in La Défense, Paris’ central business district. It’s well-connected by public transportation and offers a range of accommodation options.

How To Get Around During The 2024 Olympics In Paris?

During the 2024 Olympics in Paris, various transportation options will be available to help visitors and spectators get around the city efficiently. Here are some ways to navigate Paris during the Games:

Public Transportation: Paris has an extensive and efficient public transportation system, including the metro, buses, and trams. The metro is especially convenient for quickly getting around, with stations near major Olympic venues and tourist attractions. Consider purchasing a Paris Visite travel pass or a Navigo Easy card for unlimited travel on public transportation during your stay.

Walking and Cycling: We walked everywhere in Paris, about 60 miles in 4 days. Paris is a pedestrian-friendly city with many attractions within walking distance of each other. Consider exploring the city on foot to experience its charming streets and landmarks up close.

Additionally, Paris has a bike-sharing system called Vélib’, which offers an eco-friendly way to get around the city. Look out for designated bike lanes and cycling routes throughout Paris.

Taxi and Ride-Sharing: Taxi are readily available in Paris and can be hailed on the street or booked through taxi stands or mobile apps.

We used the G7 Ride-sharing app, the most efficient and cheap way to get around without public transportation. However, Paris traffic is heavy, so plan more than enough time to reach your destination.

Are There Shuttle Services?

The 2024 Paris Olympics will have ten free shuttle routes that use 450 low-carbon buses to transport spectators to six remote competition venues. Some of the venues that will be accessible by shuttle bus include:

1. Le Golf national in Guyancourt
2. The Château de Versailles
3. La Colline d’Élancourt
4. Roland-Garros
5. Parc des Princes
6. Varies-sur-Marne

Safety Tips For The 2024 Olympics In Paris

Watch for Pickpockets: Be mindful of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas such as public transportation, tourist attractions, and Olympic venues. Keep your belongings secure and avoid carrying large amounts of cash or valuables in easily accessible pockets.

Consider using a money belt or secure bag to protect your belongings from theft. If you notice any suspicious activity or individuals behaving in a manner that raises concern, alert nearby authorities or security personnel immediately.

During our trip, we saw many people trying to distract tourists so they could pickpocket them. A solid NO and avoiding them is the best way to stay safe. Especially ignore any clipboard people and anyone who claims they are a journalist.

Be Vigilant: Remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times, especially in crowded or touristy areas. Keep an eye out for suspicious behavior or unattended belongings and report any concerns to authorities.
