I love visiting some of Maine’s state parks located right next to a body of water, and Birch Point State Park is one of those places. You can enjoy walking around the area before admiring the endless views of the sea. Here is your guide to Birch Point State Park.
Birch Point State Park
Birch Point offers panoramic vistas of Penobscot Bay, with views of nearby islands such as Vinalhaven and North Haven.

The park’s crescent-shaped sand beach allows swimming in a gentle surf. But swimmers should note that there are no lifeguards.
There is a small parking area at the end of the dirt road. We parked there and took a beautiful stroll into the park. This allowed us to do a short hike while seeing the water in the distance. The coastal landscape is dotted with windswept birch trees, adding to the park’s natural beauty and charm.

Once you get to the beach, you will notice it is very rocky. Birch Point’s beach is ideal for beachcombing, sunbathing, and relaxation.
While the park does not have extensive hiking trails, visitors can explore the shoreline and nearby wooded areas on foot, enjoying scenic coastal views. A small path to the left goes through the woods and has some lovely benches.

The park provides picnic tables and grills, making it a perfect spot for a seaside picnic with family and friends.
When Is Birch Point State Park Open?
The park is open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 9:00 a.m. to sunset unless otherwise posted at the gate. We visited in the off-season and were still allowed to walk through the gate and enjoy the park.
How Much Does It Cost To Visit?
The fee for Adult Maine Residents is $3.00; for Adult Non-Resident it is $4.00; and for Senior Non-Resident it is $1.00
