I love hot dogs; if you ask anyone who knows me, they can second that. From summer barbecues as a kid, to dirty water dogs in NYC after a night out, a good hot dog never goes unnoticed. So, as soon as I saw that a bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn was serving up a hot dog cocktail, I immediately planned a weekend trip to the city to try it for myself. Here is my honest review of the hot dog cocktail in Brooklyn.
The ‘Hot Doggin It’ Cocktail
I didn’t know what to expect when the elevator was going up the rooftop bar. It was a hot summer day and the whole reason we were in Williamsburg for this one cocktail. As the door opened we walked out onto the rooftop of LilliStar, which had beautiful decor and views of both Brooklyn and the Manhattan Skylines.
As I made up my way up the bar I grabbed the menu, and my heart dropped when I did not see the Hot Dog cocktail on there. I asked the bartender if they had it, and they said they could make one up for me. It is usually offered, but today had a limited menu due to the party arriving a few hours later. The talented bartender started mixing up the ‘Hot Doggin It’ and I couldn’t have been more grateful.
When I told my family and friends that I was traveling to Brooklyn to try this, they all had one response “Ew”, a fair response, but the opposite of mine.

The ‘Hot Doggin It” is made of tequila, Lustau Vermut, tomato water and mustard seed agave. My favorite part is the presentation, which is a hot dog foil wrapper, garnished with a hotdog gummie.

My Honest Review: The ‘Hot Doggin It” was delicious! I was actually surprised with how good it was, and I would have gotten another one if we had the time.
It did not taste like a can of tomato juice and water, which many thought it would. Instead, it was perfectly balanced and tasted like a hot dog on a summer day, with a nice kick of tequila.
Could you really ask for anything else during a heatwave in New York?
When Is LilliStar Open?
We visited early on a Sunday afternoon, but the bar stays open pretty late into the night. On Saturday and Sunday they are open form 2:00 PM – 1:00 AM. During the week they open a little later around 5:00 PM.

Where Can I Find The Hot Dog Cocktail In Brooklyn?

I love NYC, and there are so many options for foodies visiting both Manhattan and Brooklyn.
I recommend trying the NYC’s Chinatown Ice Cream Shop: Soft Swerve.
