North Cascades is one of the least visited National Parks, mainly because of its remote location. It’s in Northern Washington, near the Canadian border, about three hours northeast of Seattle. I was excited to visit, not just because it’s remote, but because of its stunning beauty. There was one hike I couldn’t miss—the Thunder Knob Trail.
The Thunder Knob Trail
Our hike began near Colonial Creek Campground on the North Cascades Highway, where we saw only one other vehicle in the parking area.
We crossed small wooden bridges along our journey.

The moodiness of the weather and shaded trees made the scenery even more peaceful. The mood in Washington is just one of the reasons I think its a beautiful state.

The trees surrounding us were huge and I loved looking up at them throughout the uphill trek.
As we hiked through the forest we were able to spot views of Colonial Creek.

After the first section, we climbed a series of switchbacks that led to higher viewpoints.
A little over an hour into the hike, we reached the highest point at Thunder Knob!
This spot provided breathtaking views of Diablo Lake and the North Cascades.

At the top, we enjoyed the views of Diablo Lake, which we could catch during the break in the clouds.

Thunder Knob Trail Weather
It was a rainy day during our visit to North Cascades National Park, however, it added to its charm. Along the trail, you can view a variety of wildflowers in the spring and summer!
