France is known for its wines, from Burgundy to Champagne there is truly a glass for every wine lover. I found myself wanting to learn more about French wine when visiting Paris, but there were not many wine-tasting options. Fortunately, I found Les Caves du Louvre, the best wine tasting in Paris. Here is everything you need to know!

Les Caves du Louvre

The cave is a hidden gem from the 18th century, originally serving as a royal wine cellar. Built by order of King Louis XV’s sommelier, the mansion housed a thriving wine supply business. The cellars were connected through a network of tunnels, discreetly transporting wine to the Louvre.

It has recently been renovated and opened to the public for the first time, and I was lucky enough to sign up for their wine tasting during my trip to Paris.

We did a tasting after our visit to the Louvre, which is just a short five-minute walk away.

A Wine Tasting At Les Caves du Louvre

They have plenty of wine tastings to choose from, from cheese tastings to workshops. I went with the Guided Tour With Premium Tasting, which was 50 euros. Here is a glimpse into my visit.

First, we entered through the front door and made our way to the counter in the back where we checked in. The room was small but full of delicious wines.

From there we were led down the large staircase to the first room. by our sommelier, who would teach us all about the tunnels and wine. Our first glass was a crisp and refreshing white.

As I sipped and learned about the wine, I also played a game where I tried to identify certain aromas and match them to their sources.

It was challenging and made me realize just how many different smells contribute to each glass of wine.

Then, the sommelier led us into the main room, where we learned how to properly taste our glass of red.

The architecture of the room was stunning, and for a moment, I forgot that we were underground.

After we finished, we made our way to the last room, which featured a variety of wines for us to learn about We sipped our final glass before heading up the hidden staircase to the wine shop above ground.

Les Caves du Louvre was a fun and exciting way to spend a few hours in Paris. I would recommend it to anyone looking to add something extra to their itinerary at the Louvre!
