Hiking Hanging Lake In Colorado

The hike to Hanging Lake is a bit of a climb with an elevation gain of 1,269 feet, but it’s short at 3.1 miles, so don’t worry too much. The trail starts with a steady incline and has some steep sections.

How Much Does It Cost?

As of May 1, 2024, the cost to visit Hanging Lake in Glenwood Springs, Colorado is $12 per person from May 1–October 31 and $10 per person from November 1–April 30.

The permit includes parking at the Hanging Lake Rest Area and is required year-round, even if you walk or bike to the trailhead. A portion of the fee goes to trail maintenance and education.

How Do I Get To Hanging Lake In Colorado?

Hanging Lake is located in Glenwood Canyon, near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. To reach the trailhead, take I-70 and exit at Glenwood Springs. Follow the signs to the Hanging Lake Trailhead parking lot.

Note that the parking lot fills up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays, so try to arrive early.
