Rocky Mountain National Park is filled with hikes, ranging from treacherous climbs to leisurely strolls. One of my favorite hikes in the park is also one of the easiest: Nymph Lake. This hike is perfect if you only have a few hours but still want to experience some of the best views around. Here is everything you need to know.

Nymph Lake Hike

The hike to Nymph Lake begins at the Bear Lake Trailhead, a busy and well-known starting point within the park.

From here, you’ll follow a well-maintained trail that gradually ascends through a scenic forested area. As you hike, you’ll get glimpses of the towering peaks and rugged landscape that make Rocky Mountain National Park so special.

The path is well-marked and easy to navigate, making it suitable for hikers of all ages and skill levels.

The lake itself is small but picturesque, with beautiful water lilies during the summer months. It’s surrounded by pine trees and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Watch for local wildlife, including mule deer, birds, and occasionally, elk.

How Long Is The Nymph Lake Hike?

The hike is only 1.1 miles long with an elevation gain of 236 feet. It is an out-and-back trail, taking only 35 minutes to complete. But I recommend enjoying the views for a while.

Tips For Hiking To Nymph Lake

Start Early: This trailhead can get crowded, especially during the summer and fall. Arriving early helps you find parking and enjoy a quieter hike.

Weather: Weather in the mountains can change rapidly. Bring layers and be prepared for sudden changes in temperature or conditions.

Hydration: Even though the hike is short, bring water to stay hydrated, especially at higher elevations.

Is There A Fee To Hike Nymph Lake?

Yes, you need to pay the entrance fee for Rocky Mountain National Park. You can receive the fees here.

You also need a Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservation, which is required to enter the Bear Lake Road Corridor between the hours of 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
