When visiting Champagne, France, I knew I had to book a tour of Moët & Chandon. I had heard about the estate my entire life and never thought I’d get to see it for myself. From exploring the historic cellars to tasting their vintage champagnes, it was a day I’ll never forget. Here’s everything you need to know about the Grand Vintage Tour at Moët & Chandon.

Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage Tour

We opted for the Grand Vintage Tour to get the full Moët & Chandon experience, and it was incredible. I got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the most prestigious champagne houses.

Here’s what you can expect from start to finish on the tour:

First, we arrived at the grand gate and walked to the reception area to check in for our tour.

From there we were led into a large room that showcased limited bottles and art installations. We learned about the founder, Claude Moët, a wine merchant from Épernay who founded the house in 1743.

The Cellars At Moët & Chandon

Next, we headed down to the cellars. Walking through the historic cellars, I was amazed by the sheer scale and beauty of the place, surrounded by thousands of bottles aging to perfection.

The cellars have a rich and fascinating history, that dates back to the 18th century. Originally, they were former chalk quarries that were repurposed for aging champagne.

The cool, stable environment of these chalk cellars proved perfect for the long maturation process required for high-quality champagne.

The cellars have witnessed the evolution of Moët & Chandon from its founding in 1743 to its status today as one of the most iconic names in champagne.

Grand Vintage Tasting

The tour wrapped up with a tasting of champagne of course! We sat in a large room where the guide poured us two glasses of Vintage Blanc and Vintage Rosé.

Moët & Chandon Bar

We had one hour to kill before catching the train back to Paris, so we decided to head to the tasting room for one final glass of champagne.

During our tour and tastings, everyone in the room was buzzing about Dom Pérignon. Although I’m a big fan of wineries and champagne, I had never actually had a glass of Dom Pérignon, despite hearing about it my whole life.

After three tastings, we decided to try a glass of Dom Pérignon Vintage Rosé 2009. It felt like the perfect way to cap off our experience, even if it was not financially responsible.

Dom Pérignon Vintage Rosé 2009 is an amazing luxury champagne. This rosé has a rich mix of red berries, citrus, and a touch of spice. The 2009 vintage is all about elegance and depth, with a creamy feel and fine bubbles.

After aging for a few years, it’s smooth and balanced, with both freshness and maturity. It’s perfect for celebrating something special or just enjoying a glass of top-notch champagne.

I am not going to lie it was expensive at about 70 euros for one glass. However, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The bottle went for 500 euros which is almost 600 USD.

I don’t regret a damn thing!

As we finished our very expensive glass of Dom, it was time to get to the train station and head back to Paris.
