Portland is a coastal foodie town in Maine that is also home to some of the world’s best seafood restaurants. Eventide Oyster Co. is one of these restaurants, a place known for its extensive seafood menu and freshly shucked oysters.
Many travel from all over New England to try their Brown Butter Lobster Roll for themselves; honestly, I cannot blame them!
I recently got to dine at Eventide Oyster Co., Portland, Maine’s Top Seafood Restaurant, and it was certainly worth the trip. Here is everything you need to know about this seaside gem.

About Eventide Oyster Co
Additionally, Eventide Oyster Co. prides itself on blending modern restaurant vibes with a great American oyster bar experience. Moreover, they provide a fresh take on classic New England fare, thanks to being located so close to the Gulf of Maine.
Furthermore, their main location is in Portland, Maine, but they do have a second location by Fenway Park in Boston.
They have a creative menu featuring seafood dishes and an oyster-sucking station at the bar. Dining here is an experience from the moment you walk in.
Fresh Maine Seafood
Now it’s time to get to the food! Their seafood dishes are caught locally, thanks to their proximity to the Gulf of Maine. That means fresh and tasty shellfish.
The chef at Eventide is Andrew Taylor. He sports a beard, has four cubs, and resides with his wife just outside of Portland. According to their website, a fun fact is that he briefly worked as Rosie O’Donnell’s stunt double.
Local Oysters
The oysters are shucked right in front of you! It is amazing to watch your food being prepared.
They have an entire menu of local oysters, so you can pick and choose what you want or ask the server to pick for you. Some local spots include Winter Point Select, Norumbega, John’s River, and Basket Island.

Don’t forget your toppings! You can choose from Cocktail Sauce, Red Wine Mignonette, Tabasco Ice, Kimchi Ice, Pickled Red Onion Ice, and Horseradish Ice.
Brown Butter Lobster Roll at Eventide Oyster Co.
Additionally, outside of the freshly shucked oysters, the Brown Butter Lobster Roll stands as their most iconic dish on the menu at Eventide Oyster Co. If you have been to New England, you know that lobster rolls are taken very seriously here.
Their Brown Butter Lobster Roll lived up to the hype, and hands down; it was one of my favorite lobster rolls. It’s unique and packed with flavor!

We added on the Maine Lobster Stew, filled with coconut, green curry, and Maitake. What complements lobster better than more lobster?

Other seafood dishes include Bluefin Tuna Tartare, Halibut Ceviche, and the Scallop Waffle-Yaki. These are just a few to name; their menu is ever-changing.
They also offer land dishes like Fried Chicken Sandwich or the Eventide Burger.
If you want the full New England experience, try the New England Clam Bake. This includes Steamers, mussels, lobster tail, potatoes, salt pork, and a hard-boiled egg nestled into a bed of rock seaweed. Served with drawn butter and nori vinaigrette.
Imaginative Cocktails & Local Beer
Eventide Oyster Co. has you covered if you want to pair your meal with a cocktail or local brew.
I had to try the Dirty Dirty Martini with vodka, olive brine, oyster brine, and hot sauce. It tasted just like the sea.

If you want an island escape during your visit to Eventide Oyster Co., try the Scorpion Bowl. It’s a large cocktail serving 2 to 4 people, filled with rums, juices, spices, and love. Alongside cocktails, they offer a curated wine list that pairs nicely with seafood.
Additionally, you can also try one of Maine’s local beers, including Baxter Brewing and Shipyard, just a short walk from the restaurant.
