If you’re visiting Maine or exploring Acadia National Park, you can’t leave without trying a fresh Maine lobster roll. New England is famous for its seafood, but one spot stands out for its unbeatable combination of fresh lobster, stunning waterfront views, and classic New England charm—Abel’s Lobster in Mount Desert, Maine.
Abel’s Lobster
Tucked away in the Henry R. Abel & Co. Boatyard, Abel’s Lobster has been serving delicious seafood since 1939. This classic Maine seafood shack was reinvented in 2020, but it still holds its old-school charm.
Located on Somes Sound, Abel’s offers outdoor picnic tables with waterfront views, making it one of the best places to enjoy a lobster roll in Maine. The fresh sea breeze, blue water, and boats docking nearby create the perfect setting for a classic New England seafood experience.
The Famous Abel’s Lobster Roll
During our Acadia National Park trip, we made it our mission to find the best lobster roll in Maine. After trying several spots, Abel’s Lobster Roll won, hands down!
We even tried the bizarre yet tasty Lobster Ice Cream in Bar Harbor, which I recommend if you are a foodie!
This mouthwatering lobster roll is served on a griddled brioche bun and stuffed with freshly caught lobster, chives, and light mayo, creating a perfect balance of flavors.

Abel’s has more than just lobster rolls. If you’re craving a classic Maine seafood experience, try their Wood Fire Lobster—a 1.25-1.5 lb hard-shell lobster, steamed over a wood fire and served with drawn butter and Abel’s signature lobster sauce.
Pair your meal with tasty sides like:
- Cornbread with sumac butter
- Moxie-braised beans
- Fresh Maine Blueberry Pie (a must-try before you leave!)
Local Brews & Drinks
Abel’s also offers a great selection of local Maine beers, craft cocktails!

They also serve non-alcoholic options like House Lemonade and Maine Root Sodas—perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking around Acadia National Park.
I recommend Hiking Acadia National Park’s Scenic Ship Harbor Trail to truly earn your Abel’s Lobster Roll!
