Lobster and Maine are a match made in heaven, and when the weather gets warmer, lobster stands start to open up. I was lucky enough to visit a variety of lobster shacks at Acadia National Park, and one of my favorite visits was to The Travelin Lobster!
The Travelin Lobster
The Travelin Lobster LLC is a family-owned and operated restaurant. The Corson family has been lobstering for generations throughout the waters of Mount Desert Island. They opened their doors in the 1970s with Captain Phil Corson’s parents, Philip & Caroll Corson.
In 2004, Phil & Kelly Corson opened a small lobster stand at their cottages, formerly Rose Eden Cottages. They ran this with Kelly’s parents, Hank & Charlene. The business continued to grow and, in 2016, moved to its current location.

We were delighted when we found this shack on the side of the road. It has outdoor seating, and its quirky decor was just one of the reasons I loved it so much.
When we visited in the early fall, they showed a football game outside on a large screen. It was the perfect day in Acadia National Park.

They sell what they catch that day and will close when they are sold out. You know you are in for a treat when eating here, and I would add it to your lobster roll list this summer.
The Lobster
Their lobster was to die for! They have Lobster Bisque, Lobster Salad, Grilled Cheese Panini, Lobster Mac & Cheese, and even Lobster Quesadillas.
But we went for the main attraction: their Lobster Rolls! You can get a Hot Roll with sauteed buttered lobster, their Cassic Roll mixed with mayo and served on a bed of lettuce, or The Slaw Roll is mixed with mayo, served on a bed of coleslaw, and then topped with Thousand Island dressing.
You can also get a sampler of three mini rolls to try them all.
We went with the Hot Roll and paired that with two local Maine beers. It was a flawless day to sit outside and enjoy the fresh seafood.

Other Seafood Options At The Travelin Lobster
Not interested in lobster? No problem! The Travelin Lobster offers a variety of seafood options, from Steamed Clam Baskets to Crab Rolls, Shrimp, Oysters, and so much more. You honestly cannot go wrong with any of these choices.
Land Options At The Travelin Lobster
There are plenty of options for land lovers, too, such as Chicken Quesadilla, Hot Dogs, Chicken Mac & Cheese, and more. They also have salads for those looking for a lighter option.
You can explore their entire menu here.
When Is The Travelin Lobster Open?
Their opening day this season is Thursday, May 16th, 2024. The 2024 season’s hours have not been released yet, but they usually open around 11:30 AM and close before it gets dark.
How Much Does The Travelin Lobster Cost?
Prices can vary depending on the current market. But you can expect to pay anywhere between $20 and $30 per person, depending on what you want. The size of the loser roll was well worth the money, in my opinion!
Can I Make A Reservation?
No, you cannot make a reservation. You go to the counter to order and wait for your food to be ready. Wait times will vary because it is a very popular spot.
You can expect to wait an hour or more at times. I recommend grabbing a drink and enjoying the outside seating while waiting for your food. It will be worth the wait!
