When you think of famous wine regions, you may think of Napa Valley, France, and Oregon. But, sitting on the coast of New England is Saltwater Farm Vineyard, a charming winery on the Connecticut Wine Trail. Here is everything you need to know about planning a visit.
What Is The Connecticut Wine Trail?
I had no idea Connecticut had a wine trail, so I was excited when I stumbled upon it. The Connecticut Wine Trail is a collection of vineyards and wineries scattered throughout the state. It allows visitors to explore a variety of wineries in the region. One of those wineries was Saltwater Farm Vineyard.

Saltwater Farm Vineyard
When we pulled up to Saltwater Farm Vineyard, I knew we were in for a treat. You will go through the open gate and down the small gravel road. There, you will find plenty of parking. You will see a large wooden door as you go to the winery.

From there, you will enter the gorgeous winery with large ceilings and plenty of wine to try. The team can recommend which wine is best for your preference and will even allow you to taste a sip before ordering. They do not do tastings but offer wine by glass or bottle.

You will have a variety of options when it comes to seating. You can stay downstairs and cozy up around the fireplace.

You can also make your way upstairs, which has beautiful vineyard views. It was a cold day, so we chose to stay inside in the upper seating area. There are also a few tables outside on the balcony upstairs.

Saltwater Farm Vineyard offers a variety of outdoor seating, which would be perfect on a sunny summer day.
The Wine At Saltwater Farm Vineyard
Saltwater makes eight wines, including an unoaked chardonnay and a classic Bordeaux-style cabernet franc-merlot blend aged in French oak.
We shared a 2022 Pinot Noir Rose bottle, a dry rose with aromas of magnolia and melon. Its crisp acidity and subtle flavors of apricot and orange peel make it a refreshing, refined wine. It was an enjoyable wine on a chilly but sunny day.

You can view all of their current vintages on their website.
Hike To The Restored World War II-Era Airplane
You can even walk through the vineyard to the restored World War II-era airplane. It is located by the water, and the staff will advise you on how to get there. It was too cold for us to make our way down there, but we will be hiking to it next time after a glass of wine.
Is The Vineyard Dog Friendly?
Yes! There were so many dogs when we visited, so bring your pup with you. We even saw a dog getting walked through the vineyard.
