There are two things I have been truly enjoying, visiting Quebec City during Christmas time and authentic Italian food. So, during our visit to the North this past November, I got to experience both. After spending way too much time researching Italian restaurants in Quebec City, I came across one that I knew I had to try, Va Bene. Here’s why you simply have to dine at Va Bene during your next trip to Quebec City
Va Bene
This small and intimate Quebec City Italian restaurant is so much more than your typical pasta restaurant.
It’s actually an antipasto bar, specializing in shareable appetizers for the table.
Their platters feature charcuterie, including ham, cheese, bread, and more. Pair that with their creative cocktails, and your meal will be set.

We visited for a full dinner off their à la carte menu, instead of opting for appetizers, but I’m sure we’ll be back for that next time.
Dinner at Va Bene
Here’s a look at what I ordered during my visit to this Italian restaurant in Old Quebec City!
Gnocchi con Pomodori Secchi
We started with the Gnocchi con Pomodori Secchi, which is made with dried tomatoes, cream, spinach, pine nuts, pecorino romano, and Italian sausage meat.

It melted in my mouth! The sauce was so light and airy, and we had it topped with their homemade parmesan cheese.
Which was absolutely amazing as they served it fresh.
Seafood Special
I had to choose the Seafood Special as my main dish, which featured fresh lobster and shrimp served over black squid ink risotto.
What really caught my eye was that it also included sea urchins.

As a foodie, I’ve always wanted to try it, and I was thrilled to finally get the chance.
It was delicious—slightly chewy, as it typically is, but full of flavor. The entire dish exceeded my expectations, and I devoured every bite.
Tagliatelle al Ragù Bolognese
We also had to try one of their pasta dishes, as that’s the only way I can truly judge if a restaurant serves great Italian food!
So, we ordered the Tagliatelle al ragù bolognese, which included beef, pork, prosciutto di Parma, passata tomato sauce, red wine, and Parmigiano Reggiano.

It was light, fresh, and packed with flavor.
I loved that it wasn’t drenched in an overpowering red sauce like many restaurants do.
Instead, you could really taste the delicate balance in the light yet bold tomato sauce.
The restaurant was so good, it earned a spot on my Best Restaurants in Quebec City List: Where to Eat & What to Try.
The Famous Tiramisu at Va Bene
When we asked for the dessert menu, we were delighted to hear they had one option: Homemade Tiramisu, which wasn’t even listed on the menu.

It was served in a small dish, and as soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to be one of those desserts I’d never forget.
I was right—it was the best Tiramisu I’ve ever had, served with a thoughtful handwritten note.
It’s something I saved in my box of travel memories.
The Wine List
We accompanied our Italian dinner with a bottle of wine from Italy, of course!
Our waiter, who also acted as our sommelier, recommended the perfect bottle to bring out the flavor in our dishes. While staying within our price range.

It was truly magical watching the snow fall outside the window while sipping our wine and savoring every bite of our traditional Italian meal.
I’m so glad we decided to spend our evening here.

An Unforgettable Evening at Va Bene
Our entire experience was amazing, and I have to say, it’s now my favorite restaurant in Quebec City!
If you visit, I highly recommend trying the Flambé Pasta, which is served for two.
It features Tagliolini Alfredo, flambéed with Vecchia Romagna brandy in a wheel of 36-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano, with a garnish of the moment.
We could smell it the entire time we were there, as many tables ordered it, and it smelled absolutely wonderful.
It was the perfect place to dine after spending the day at the Quebec City Christmas Market.
Reservations at Va Bene
Va Bene was packed when we visited, so I recommend making a reservation in advance.
It’s a small, intimate space, that serves the best Italian food in Quebec City, so saving a spot is a must.
You can book reservations online.
