Visiting the Blue Lagoon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that many people dream of. When I finally had the chance to go, I was in awe, from the turquoise blue waters of the hot spring to the incredible surrounding landscape.
During my visit, I was lucky enough to have dinner at Lava Restaurant, which sits right on the property. Here’s everything I ate and what you can expect when dining there.
What Is the Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon?
Lava Restaurant is located right on the grounds of the famous Blue Lagoon in Iceland, making it one of the most convenient and popular dining options for visitors.
What makes this restaurant truly special is that it’s built directly into the surrounding lava cliffs, giving it a unique, natural atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else.

Floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning views of the milky blue geothermal waters, so you can soak in the beauty of the lagoon while you dine.
The restaurant is known for offering a relaxed yet upscale experience, with menus that showcase fresh Icelandic ingredients and local flavors.

My Experience Dining at Lava Restaurant
During my stay at the iconic Silica Hotel at the Blue Lagoon, we decided to book dinner reservations to enjoy after a day of soaking.

I booked the reservations easily online and enjoyed stunning views of the lagoon right from our dining table.
What’s on the Lava Restaurant Menu?
I had to start my meal with the Blue Lagoon Signature Cocktail, which features Marberg Gin, Le Blue liqueur, lemon, passionfruit, orange liqueur, orange juice, and egg white.

It was sweet yet balanced—a perfect option to sip alongside the meal.
Then we were served their homemade bread with butter, salted using Icelandic sea salt, presented on a lava rock, of course.
This complimentary starter was surprisingly delicious.

Next up was the Chicken Liver Parfait, which was surprisingly good despite being liver.
It was served with blueberries, crispy seeded bread, and bacon. The flavors were bold and really stood out.

We also tried the Arctic Char, a signature fish of Iceland. It was served with cucumber, rye bread, Greek yogurt, and a touch of wasabi.

For the main meat dish, we had the Grilled Beef, served with broccoli, potatoes, blue cheese, and dates—a combination of flavors that worked beautifully together!

Of course, our meal wouldn’t be complete without trying a true Icelandic dessert!
We chose the “Ástarpungar,” an Icelandic pastry served with orange caramel, cocoa crumble, and cardamom ice cream. It was my favorite dish of the evening.

All and all, the food at the Lava Restaurant at Blue Lagoon was really fresh and really delicious!
Is Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon Worth It?
Are there better restaurants in Iceland? Yes, definitely. But when it comes to finding a great dinner spot right on the Blue Lagoon property, I thought Lava Restaurant was an excellent option.
It is a bit pricey—of course, everything in Iceland is—but if you can swing it, enjoy the experience.
I’d recommend it mainly if you’re able to relax and don’t have anywhere else to be.
I wouldn’t suggest it for a casual lunch in your robes, though; it’s probably too expensive for that. For lunch, you’re better off grabbing a classic Icelandic hot dog from a nearby gas station instead.
Tips for Dining at Lava Restaurant
- Make reservations in advance to secure your preferred time slot.
- You can dine at Lava Restaurant without visiting the Blue Lagoon, but I can’t imagine doing one without the other!
- For a unique twist, have dinner before your Blue Lagoon visit and soak afterward. This way, you won’t have to worry about looking presentable after your soak.
- Enjoy the views—they’re truly the best part of dining here!
- Check the menu online before you go so you won’t be surprised by the prices.
Final Thoughts
I thought the Lava Restaurant was a great experience during my stay at the Blue Lagoon.
They also have the Michelin-starred Moss Restaurant on site, but it’s very expensive.
After researching it for months, I felt it didn’t quite live up to the hype, so Lava Restaurant is a fantastic and more affordable second option.
