You never know what you’ll find on a road trip through Nebraska. Tucked away in the small town of Alliance is one of the most bizarre (and fun) roadside attractions in the U.S.—Carhenge.
This quirky art installation replicates England’s famous Stonehenge, but instead of giant stones, it’s built entirely from vintage cars.
Set on the edge of Nebraska’s Sandhills region, it’s the kind of place that makes you pull over, grab your camera, and wonder how it even exists.
Carhenge in Nebraska
Jim Reinders created Carhenge in Nebraska in 1987 to memorialize his father.
He and his family gathered 38 automobiles and arranged them in the same proportions as the stones at Stonehenge, creating a work of art.

The installation is not only an automotive replica of Stonehenge, but it also includes other sculptures made from cars and car parts.

These additional sculptures, known as the “Car Art Reserve,” add to the artistic atmosphere.
Is Visiting Carhenge Free?
Yes! Carhenge is completely free to visit and open year-round. Visitors are welcome to:
- Walk among the cars
- Touch and interact with the structures
- Take plenty of photos

It’s playful, creative, and makes you feel like you’re inside a giant art installation.

How To Get Here
Here is where the art installation is located.
Fly Over Brewing
After visiting Carhenge, we made our way over to Fly Over Brewing. It was a lively restaurant and pub that had delicious food and beer.

Nebraska has so much to discover, and Carhenge is just one fantastic stop you can take during your United States road trip.
