It’s that time of year again when sugar shacks across Maine open their doors for maple season. Even with the rain, it felt like the perfect way to get out and experience one of the most fun weekends of spring. Here’s everywhere we visited during Maine Maple Sunday Weekend.

Maine Maple Sunday Weekend

Maine Maple Sunday Weekend is one of those traditions that really feels like spring has arrived.

Sugar shacks all across the state open their doors to visitors, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at how maple syrup is made.

From tapping the trees to boiling it down into that rich syrup everyone loves.

It’s also a chance to actually meet the people behind it, the local farmers and families who have been doing this for generations, and to support them directly by buying their products.

Between the fresh maple syrup, homemade treats, and fun extras like tastings and tours, it’s one of the best weekends to explore Maine in a way that feels both local and really special.

Where I Stopped During Maine Maple Sunday Weekend

Here’s everywhere I stopped, from local sugar shacks and farms to even a maple creemee truck.

1. Chadwick’s Craft Spirits

We went on Friday night to kick off the weekend, and even though it was raining, it was still packed.

We tried everything on their maple weekend menu, including the maple-infused flight with drinks like the Sugar Shack Sunset, hot maple buttered rum, and a maple piña colada.

We also had the mini pancakes with maple syrup and maple hot dogs, which made it feel like a full maple-themed experience from start to finish.

We also loved seeing the distillery dog, which made the whole stop even better.

I can’t wait to come back in the summer to take advantage of the other events!

2. Balsam Ridge

We headed to Balsam Ridge the next morning to start our Saturday, and it was such a good first stop for the day.

We tried the pancake special with fresh maple syrup and grabbed a few empanadas, which were a really fun and unexpected addition for Maple Weekend.

After eating, we walked through the sugar shack to see how everything is made.

3. Sweet William’s Maple Syrup

We made our way to Sweet William’s Maple Syrup next!

And this ended up being one of the highlights of the weekend.

I had to try theiramous maple doughnuts!

Which are made fresh on site and go quickly for a reason; they were so good.

There were also samples of maple-baked beans and maple ice cream, and everything was just as good as it sounds.

Before leaving, we picked up a bunch of maple goodies to bring home.

Including Maine maple almonds and a unique take on a whoopie pie.

Which made this stop feel like the perfect mix of trying everything and stocking up for later.

4. Pineland Farms

Next, we headed over to Pineland Farms, which ended up being one of the most interactive stops of the weekend.

We did their two-hour farm pass, which gives you access to walk around the farm and see the animals.

After exploring, we stopped by the market and café and grabbed Maine maple pulled pork sandwiches.

They were so good and a great way to refuel before heading to the next stop.

5. Fairwinds Farm

Next, we made our way to Fairwinds Farm, which was another great stop to experience the more traditional side of Maine Maple Weekend.

We tried the maple-baked beans and hot dogs, which were delicious.

Then we picked up a few goodies from their farm stand to bring home.

This is also a great spot to grab fresh vegetables and local products straight from the farm.

While we were there, we listened in on one of their demonstrations, where they walked through the full maple syrup process.

This includes tapping and collecting sap to boiling, filtering, bottling, and grading.

It was really interesting to hear it explained step by step, and it added another layer to the whole experience.

6. Red Door Sugar Shack

Our last stop was Red Door Sugar Shack, and this ended up being one of my favorite stops of the whole weekend.

We were definitely too full to try the funnel cake, but we still grabbed a maple syrup sample and spent some time visiting the goats.

Of course, we still left with a full bag of maple treats!

Including maple cotton candy, maple popcorn, maple syrup, and maple crack, which was honestly so good.

While waiting in line, we also got to watch the sugar shack in action, which was a really cool way to end the weekend.
