La Gondola is a unique boat tour experience in Providence, Rhode Island, where you can ride an authentic Venetian gondola along the city’s scenic waterways.
Instead of heading to Italy, you can spend an afternoon or evening floating underneath beautiful bridges, admiring the downtown architecture, and enjoying a relaxing ride along the river.
We recently visited La Gondola for the first time and booked their classic private gondola ride, the Viaggio dei Sogni, which translates to “Trip of Dreams.”
If you’re looking for a romantic date night or something a little different to do in Providence, this is definitely an experience to add to your list!
Booking Our Private Gondola Ride in Providence
La Gondola offers several different gondola experiences, but we decided to book their Viaggio dei Sogni, a classic 40-minute private ride through downtown Providence.
This experience includes a private gondola, a gondolier who rows you along the river, handmade Italian wine biscuits, and even a little singing along the way!
One of the best parts is that the experience is BYOB, so you can bring your favorite bottle of wine or another beverage to enjoy during the ride.
The Viaggio dei Sogni currently starts at $89 for two people, with an additional charge for extra passengers. Since rides are seasonal and weather-dependent, I recommend checking availability and making reservations ahead of time.
Where to Board La Gondola in Downtown Providence
La Gondola departs from Gondola Landing at One Citizens Plaza in downtown Providence, right along the riverfront.
The dock is located below Cafe Nuovo’s outdoor dining area, making it a convenient starting point for exploring the city.
Once you’re at the dock, you’ll board your Venetian gondola and get settled in before heading out onto the water.
Bringing Wine on Our Providence Gondola Ride
One of my favorite things about our gondola ride was that we could bring our own wine!
We decided to bring a bottle of orange wine to enjoy while floating through downtown Providence.
La Gondola had everything ready for us right on board, including a wine bucket, glasses, and a bottle opener, so we didn’t have to worry about bringing anything other than our wine.
Our ride also included handmade Italian wine biscuits from a local bakery, which were absolutely delicious!
Between the wine, biscuits, and beautiful scenery, it was such a fun way to spend an evening in Providence.
Floating Along the Providence River in a Venetian Gondola
Once we were on the water, we spent the next 40 minutes floating through downtown Providence, passing underneath bridges and taking in the city from a completely different perspective.
Our gondolier was wonderful and made the entire experience even more enjoyable.
As we made our way along the river, he pointed out different sights, shared information about Providence, and answered all of our questions.
One of the most memorable moments was when he started singing underneath the bridges!
Hearing him sing while we floated along the river made the experience feel even more like something you would find in Venice.
It honestly felt like we had been transported to Italy without ever leaving Rhode Island.
