It’s that time of year again when Christmas markets start to open, and you can shop ‘til you drop in your winter best.

I’ve explored the festive streets of NYC and the charm of Boston, but Christmas in Quebec City truly stole my heart.

In this updated 2025 guide, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about visiting the German Christmas Market in Old Quebec.

Christmas Market in Quebec City (2025)

A few weeks before Christmas, I had the pleasure of experiencing the magical atmosphere of the German Christmas Market in Old Québec.

Traditional European markets inspire this charming event, bringing that same festive ambiance to the heart of Quebec City.

Creating a truly unforgettable holiday experience.

There’s so much to see and do! Here were some of my favorites during my visit.

1. Walk Around the Christmas Market

Quebec City’s Christmas Market is an absolute holiday haven!

The air is filled with festive charm as you stroll through the market’s enchanting booths, which are dressed in twinkling lights.

2. Drink at The Winter Bar

The trip starts with a visit to the Winter Bar, which was packed all day and night.

They serve up hot mulled wine, local Quebecian beer, handcrafted cocktails, and other delightful cocktails.

We enjoyed sipping the hot mulled wine, which warmed us up on the cold winter day.

The real star? Mulled Wine is a total game-changer in the chilly weather. Just a sip or two, the winter chill suddenly becomes a distant memory.

4. Eat at 1001 Fondues

The most popular food stand at the market was 1001 Fondues. We waited in line for about 40 minutes, and it was worth every second!

These cheese-stuffed fondue baguettes are one of the most popular Christmas market snacks in Quebec City.

The stand takes a warm baguette, stuffs it with a succulent sausage, and then lavishly pours warm cheese fondue into the middle.

It was truly the closest thing to heaven on earth!

If you only have time for one snack at the Quebec City Christmas Market, make sure this is it.

5. Try Tomato Wine

If you’re a wine lover, the Quebec City Christmas Market offers more than your typical mulled wine.

One of the most surprising and delightful discoveries I made was tomato wine—yes, really!

Omerto, the world’s first tomato wine producer, runs a booth at the German Christmas Market offering small tastings of their signature blends.

Their wines are made from fermented heirloom tomatoes, crafted using a family recipe that originated in Belgium and was perfected in Quebec.

I got to try their original dry tomato wine, along with a sweeter version and a warm spiced take on it—similar to mulled wine.

It was shockingly smooth, with flavors that reminded me more of fruit wine than anything vegetable-based.

Omerto tomato wine makes a fantastic conversation piece for holiday dinners and is a great souvenir to bring back home.

6. Shop Handpicked Treasures

One of the highlights of the German Christmas Market in Quebec City is the variety of handcrafted goods and artisan-made gifts available throughout the charming wooden booths.

From locally made ornaments and hand-knit accessories to imported German sweets and festive home décor, it’s easy to spend hours browsing for Christmas gifts in Old Quebec.

You’ll find something for everyone on your list—and probably a few surprises for yourself too.

Whether you’re looking for unique holiday crafts or stocking up on seasonal snacks, shopping at the market is part of what makes the whole experience so magical.

7. Try German Food

If you’re craving something warm and satisfying while exploring the market, don’t miss out on the variety of German street food!

You’ll find hearty options like hot dogs made with traditional German sausages, buttery pretzels, warm baguettes stuffed with cheese fondue, and other Alpine-inspired snacks.
