It’s that time of year again when Maine’s lobster shacks and restaurants swing open their doors. If you’ve followed my adventures, you already know how much I love tracking down the best lobster rolls.
On a sunny May weekend, I stopped at one of the state’s most popular spots, Highroller Lobster Co. in Portland. Here’s everything you need to know before you go.
The Highroller Lobster Co.
Highroller Lobster Co. started as a simple food cart run by Andy and Baxter, who served lobster rolls at Portland breweries and beer festivals.
After three years on the road, they teamed up with Pete from Bissell Brothers and opened their brick-and-mortar restaurant in December 2018.
What began with their popular cart favorites quickly grew into a full menu of lobster rolls, burgers, and local craft beers.
By the next summer, Highroller expanded with a gift shop and patio, cementing its spot as one of Portland’s most popular lobster roll destinations.
The Fun Decor
I was in love with the decor from the moment we walked up.
From the funky skeleton to the white and red stripes, it was everything we needed for a nice Sunday lunch.

The restaurant boasts a casual, laid-back atmosphere with a fun, vibrant interior. It’s an excellent spot for a quick bite and a relaxed meal.

We sat outside at one picnic table to enjoy the lovely spring day. As soon as we were sat, we were brought a menu.

After deciding, we went inside and placed our order at the counter. The whole process was easy.

The Food At The Highroller Lobster Co.
The food is everything, and they have many items to choose from, including various lobster items.
We got a variety of food, which was quite affordable for seafood in Maine.
One of our favorite parts of Highroller’s is the ability to customize your dish with various sauces and toppings, allowing for a personalized dining experience.

Our spread includes a 4oz Highbruger with a Brisket Blend Patty with caramelized onions, chopped romaine, and your choice of sauce on a freshly baked brioche bun.
It also comes with a side of Highfries, classic shoestring cut fries tossed with Old Bay seasoning.
Lobby Pop
We enjoyed a Lobby Pop, which is a “Lobster Tail on a Stick.”
You can get it drenched in butter or covered in our cornbread batter and deep-fried. We got it fried and paired ours with charred Pineapple mayo.

Lobster Roll!
Highroller is famous for its unique takes on the classic lobster roll.
You can choose from different styles and sauces, such as the traditional mayo or butter, and more adventurous options like lime mayo, jalapeño mayo, and lobster ghee.

The lobster roll includes chopped Romaine, 4 oz of fresh Maine claw and knuckle meat, and your choice of sauce.
We chose the garlic mayo for our lobster roll!

We got the half-size since we ordered a large amount of food. We wish we had room for dessert.
If you do, try the Whoopie Pie, baked in small batches by co-founder Andy’s mom for Highroller in Portland.
Every bite of every menu item we ordered was delicious.
We paired our meal with a $3 can of Allagash White, one of our favorite breweries in Maine.
