Salem is famous for its witchy history, but did you know it’s also home to some of the coolest speakeasies around? If you love a good cocktail with a spooky twist, this is the place to be. In this guide, I’m sharing my favorite hidden bars in Salem where you can sip some spooky cocktails this Halloween season.
Speakeasies In Salem
Oh, and if you want a truly scary experience in Salem, make sure to check out Salem’s Night Faire!
1. Deacon Giles Distillery
Deacon Giles Speakeasy is a must-visit for craft cocktail lovers who enjoy a touch of spooky charm.
Tucked away on a side street, it’s easy to miss at first glance. We nearly walked right by it, with only a small sign to catch your attention.

I loved walking into the bar, which had spooky pictures and a variety of Halloween Cocktails.
Their cocktail menu is full of unique flavors, often using spirits made right on-site, like their rum and gin.

The Halloween Cocktails At Deacon Giles Distillery
Whether it’s a potion-inspired cocktail during the Halloween season or something special for winter, the bar always offers something exciting.
We ordered a variety of drinks here! Our first round consisted of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, made with Kombu Original Gin, yuzu, cane, squid ink, MSG, and dry ice, and the Punx Prog.
Featuring carrot dry gin, lemon, house grenadine, and house triple sec.

The dry ice made the drink look smoky and spooky, in true Halloween fashion.
Next up was the Saturn Returns, crafted with BPF Dry Gin, coconut, orgeat, lemon, passion fruit, and Peychaud’s, followed by Let the Moon Do the Rest.
Featuring spiced rum, vodka, spiced local peach, lime, sage, and house triple sec.

The colors on the Saturn Returns were absolutely stunning, and the presentation was just as impressive.
I really appreciated the creativity and unique blend of flavors in the drink!

From here we headed over to Salem’s Night Faire, which was only a 6-minute Uber ride.

2. Hallowed Ground
After spending a few hours at Salem Night Faire, we decided to continue our night out on the town.
So we headed over to Hallowed Ground, another hidden speakeasy in Salem, located below the popular Dire Wolf Tavern.
The space is small and intimate, with low lighting and décor that taps into Salem’s haunted history.
They also host a variety of events, including burlesque and drag shows. We were there on an event night, and the line was already out the door when we arrived.

The Halloween Cocktails At Hallowed Ground
Their cocktail menu is as impressive as the atmosphere, with drinks that are both visually stunning and full of bold flavors. Whether you’re looking for something smoky, sweet, or a little adventurous, Hallowed Ground’s bartenders know how to craft a memorable cocktail.

I absolutely loved their Blood Moon Cosmopolitan—it had all the classic flavors, but somehow tasted even better! Our other drink was equally as spooky with a burnt orange and seasonal flavors
