But one spot that stands out is one of my favorite cocktail bars in the city, The Cloakroom.

This top-rated speakeasy is hidden inside a suit store, adding to its secret charm. Here is how you can visit during your trip to Montreal!

The Cloakroom

The Cloakroom Bar in Montreal, opened in 2015, is a cozy cocktail spot tucked inside the Golden Square Mile.

It’s part of Maison Cloakroom, which includes a custom menswear shop and a barber.

The Cloakroom has gained national and international recognition for its impressive collection of vintage spirits, especially Amari and bourbons.

It was ranked No. 3 in Canada in 2024 by Canada’s 100 Best and No. 39 in North America by North America’s 50 Best Bars.

How to Find The Cloakroom

Finding The Cloakroom is part of the fun, since it’s literally hidden right next to Maison Cloakroom!

Once you locate it, a friendly staff member welcomes you and guides you through the process.

We had to wait about twenty minutes before being led inside, but the anticipation only added to the excitement.

Finally, we were taken downstairs to a small, lively room.

The dim lighting, intimate seating, and quiet buzz of conversation created the perfect speakeasy atmosphere.

The Unique Cocktails at The Cloakroam

What makes The Cloakroom stand out is its approach to cocktails. Unlike most bars, there’s no menu here.

Instead, the experience is completely tailored to you. The mixologist takes the time to chat with you, asking about your favorite flavors and what you’re in the mood for.

Based on this, they create a unique drink that matches your preferences perfectly.

I asked for a savory yet strong drink and what I got was a flavor explosion!

Speakeasy Vibe

Beyond the drinks, the vibe at The Cloakroom makes it even more special.

I am not going to lie, it is a very small space, with a row of couches and seats at the bar.

It felt like a true speakeasy, hidden away from the world in the basement.

We enjoyed the intimate setting while sitting right at the bar. It was a tight squeeze but also cozy.
