10 minutes
Sip and Guzzle NYC is one of the hottest cocktail spots in New York City, and it’s already earned a top‑5 ranking on North America’s 50 Best Bars list. So, I was really excited to check it out.
I booked reservations on both floors and spent the night sipping creative cocktails and tasting some of the most unique bar bites in NYC.
In this Sip and Guzzle NYC review, I’ll share everything you need to know before visiting, from must‑try drinks to tips for scoring a reservation.
Sip and Guzzle NYC Review
Let’s dive into my visit to Sip & Guzzle in New York City—from the bar’s background to my full experience visiting both floors.
History of Sip and Guzzle
Sip & Guzzle opened in Greenwich Village in January 2024. It’s the brainchild of Shingo Gokan (Tokyo’s SG Club) and Steve Schneider (Employee’s Only).
The concept is split across two floors: Sip offers a quiet, Japanese-style cocktail bar downstairs, while Guzzle upstairs brings louder, more casual energy.

Within just over a year, Sip and Guzzle shot to No. 5 on the 2025 North America’s 50 Best Bars list.
They’ve also announced a second location in Japan, extending their cross‑continental cocktail vision.
I was so excited to try it for myself after seeing it literally everywhere online.
My Experience at Sip and Guzzle NYC
We had back-to-back reservations on a Saturday night—starting at Sip at 7:30 PM, then moving upstairs to Guzzle at 8:30.
If you’re planning to visit both, I’d recommend giving yourself closer to 90 minutes between seatings.
We ran a little over at Sip, but the staff was incredibly helpful and adjusted our Guzzle reservation without a problem.
Starting the Night at Sip
After being led downstairs, we entered Sip, which had the feel of a speakeasy crossed with a cocktail lounge.
The space was dimly lit and quiet, with small tables and an intimate setup.

Tomato Tree
We started off with two savory cocktails. I had the Tomato Tree, made with Roku gin and other ingredients listed as fruit, flower, leaf, and sap.
It delivered a strong tomato flavor in the best way possible—easily one of my favorite drinks of the night.

Hirosaki San
We also tried the Hirosaki San, made with SG Shochu, fermented turnip, yuzu kosho, and fino.
The flavors were unique, earthy, and bright. Definitely not your typical cocktail, but one of the most creative I have ever had!

Foie Gras Mont Blanc
For food, we started with the Foie Gras Mont Blanc, topped with pickled cherry jam and nori.
I’m not usually a huge foie gras fan, but this one was done really well—one of my favorite bites of the evening.

Whisky Nigiri
Then I tried the Whisky Nigiri, served in a small glass. It had Toki whisky, sushi vinegar, sake, and wasabi.
It was meant to be sipped like a shot. The wasabi gave it a big kick and made it one of the more interesting drinks we had.

Sixty Forty
Before heading upstairs, we tried their most famous drink: the Sixty Forty. It’s part martini, part Manhattan, served with both an olive and a cherry.

Take a bite of each, and the drink shifts flavor—it really does taste like both cocktails in one. It was a clever way to wrap up our time at Sip.
Heading Upstairs to Guzzle
Now it was time to head upstairs to Guzzle for our foodie portion of the night!

Guzzle is a completely different experience. It’s louder, brighter, and full of energy.
The music was upbeat, the room was packed, and the vibe felt like classic NYC chaos, in a good way.

Wagyu Old Fashioned
I decided to try one more drink and sip on the Wagyu Old Fashioned, made with bourbon, peanut butter, and wagyu beef.
It was smoky, rich, and definitely unique.

Mochi Fries
Now for dinner, we started with the Mochi Fries, covered in nacho powder.
They had a chewy texture inside with crispy edges—a fun snack to share.

Electric Chicken
Then came the Electric Chicken, one of their most popular dishes—and it lived up to the hype.
It’s salt-brined, air-dried, and buttermilk-marinated fried chicken, finished with a custom blend of chilies, sansho, Sichuan peppercorn oil, and a “super tingly” seasoning.

You’re given scissors and a glove so you can cut it yourself at the table, which made it the most interactive—and honestly, the most fun—dish of the night.

On top of that, it was some of the best chicken I’ve had in NYC.
Bikini – The World’s Thinnest Sandwich
We also tried the Bikini, described as the world’s thinnest sandwich.
It had Comté ganache and 5J Jamón, and it’s only available at Guzzle, not Sip.

It actually packed a ton of flavor in its small yet powerful bite.
Brown Butter Soft Serve
We finished the meal with Brown Butter Soft Serve in a cup. It was the perfect way to end the night.

Honestly, every dish was packed with flavor, and the drinks were some of the best I’ve ever had.
While the meal was on the pricier side, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for NYC.
I’d definitely recommend it for a special occasion, just like we did.
Final Thoughts on Sip & Guzzle
Sip and Guzzle offers two completely different experiences under one roof. Sip is quiet and romantic, while Guzzle is fun and loud.
I loved doing them back to back—starting with a few cocktails and snacks downstairs, then heading up for a full dinner in a more upbeat setting.
But you could also reverse it: dinner first, then wind down with drinks at Sip. Either way, it works.
The service stood out the entire night—friendly, fast, and incredibly accommodating.
It’s rare to find a spot in NYC where you can have two totally different experiences in one place—and Sip and Guzzle pulls it off effortlessly.
How to Make a Reservation at Sip & Guzzle
Sip and Guzzle offers separate reservations for each floor, so if you want to experience both like we did, you’ll need to book them individually.
Book a reservation here. You will use the same link for both spots, just make sure you choose each one.
I’d recommend spacing your reservations at least 90 minutes apart.
