If you’re looking for a unique cocktail experience in Copenhagen, Curfew should be at the top of your list. Hidden behind a bookshelf in the Vesterbro neighborhood, this Prohibition-style speakeasy feels like stepping back in time.

Curfew Speakeasy in Copenhagen

Curfew is a speakeasy, and if you know me, you know I love a good speakeasy!

The entrance is hidden behind a bookshelf, and once inside, you’ll find dim lighting, vintage decor, jazz music, and a menu filled with creative cocktails.

With low lighting, vintage decor, and intimate seating, it felt like stepping into another era.

While Copenhagen has plenty of great cocktail bars, Curfew stands out because it feels like an experience rather than just a place to grab a drink.

Make a Reservation

We booked a reservation right when the bar opened for the evening, and I would definitely recommend doing the same.

Arriving at opening gave us plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere before it got busier later in the night.

It also made it easier to take in all of the small details throughout the space.

Finding the Hidden Entrance

Part of the fun is actually finding the entrance.

I had heard that Curfew was hidden behind a bookshelf, but it still took us a minute to figure out exactly where to go.

The bookshelf entrance at Curfew Speakeasy is part of what makes the experience so memorable.

I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to find, but it’s not completely obvious either, which adds to the experience.

Once you make your way through the hidden entrance, it feels like you’ve discovered a secret spot that most visitors would walk right past.

What We Ordered

During our visit, we ordered three different cocktails.

The first was the Cindy Hop Montenegro Mlover, which featured Monkey 47 Gin, strawberry-basil cordial, Amaro Montenegro, and fresh yuzu.

We also ordered the Josephine Baker, made with Havana Club Selección de Maestros Rum, fat-washed with ghee and clarified banana.

This ended up being my favorite cocktail of the night because it arrived smoking and made for such a fun presentation.

Finally, we had to try Curfew’s signature Ramos Gin Fizz.

The Famous Ramos Gin Fizz

One of the most unique things about Curfew is its historic Coles Shaker.

Dating back to the 1880s, this rare hand-crank cocktail shaker was originally used in old saloons to mix drinks containing cream, milk, and eggs.

Today, Curfew uses one of these restored machines to prepare their Ramos Gin Fizz.

Watching the drink being made is part of the experience.

The cocktail itself combines gin, lemon, lime, orange flower water, cream, egg white, and soda water to create a light, frothy drink.

Even if you normally stick to classic cocktails, I think the Ramos Gin Fizz is worth ordering simply because it’s such a unique part of Curfew’s history.

Is Curfew Worth It?

Absolutely.

There are plenty of places to grab a drink in Copenhagen, but Curfew offers an experience that feels memorable from start to finish.

The hidden bookshelf entrance, creative cocktails, and historic Coles Shaker make it one of the most unique bars we visited during our trip.

If you’re planning a night out in Copenhagen, I’d add Curfew to your itinerary.
