Apotek Afternoon Tea in Iceland: What It’s Like + Full Menu Review

When you think of Iceland, afternoon tea probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind—but that’s exactly what made it so fun.

In the heart of Reykjavik, Apotek Restaurant serves up a stylish afternoon tea experience with an Icelandic twist.

I booked it on a rainy afternoon, and it ended up being one of the coziest—and tastiest—surprises of the trip.

Here is all the “tea” on my experience!

Apotek Restaurant in Reykjavik

Located in one of Reykjavik’s most iconic buildings, Apotek Restaurant is where old-world charm meets modern Icelandic dining.

The name “Apotek” isn’t just for fun; it actually sits in what used to be the city’s main pharmacy.

It’s part of the Apotek Hotel, right near Austurvöllur Square, and it’s easily one of the most stylish spots to eat in town.

Apotek is known for its elevated yet approachable menu, creative cocktails, and polished service!

Whether you’re in the mood for a fancy dinner, a relaxed lunch, or in my case, a cozy afternoon tea, the space feels special without being overly formal.

My Afternoon Tea at Apotek

The afternoon tea at Apotek is served as a beautiful three-tiered tower, and yes—it’s as photogenic as it sounds.

Tea

Each guest gets their own personal pot, which makes it super easy to try a few different teas without sharing or compromising.

We went with the Earl Grey Superior, which had a smooth, floral flavor and paired perfectly with both the savory and sweet bites.

It was warm, comforting, and ideal for a gray Reykjavik afternoon.

There are plenty of other options too—everything from classic English Breakfast to fruity blends like Strawberry & Raspberry or Bora Bora—so there’s something for everyone.

Savory Bites

The savory tier was where things got really fun.

Next was the classic tuna sandwich, which was anything but boring. The tuna salad had just a touch of chili for a gentle kick, balanced out by crisp cucumber slices.

The sea trout on a waffle was a standout—salty, smoky, and creamy all at once.

It came with a dollop of smoked cream cheese on top of a soft waffle, and honestly, I could’ve eaten three of those.

We also had the spicy chicken sandwich, which included sun-dried tomatoes, Parmesan, and basil. It was rich, flavorful, and surprisingly filling for such a dainty bite.

Last but not least, the duck on a waffle combined duck confit with caramelized apples and Icelandic root beer sauce. It was delish!

Sweet Bites

Once we made it to the dessert tier, things got even more indulgent.

The Sweet Summer mousse had layers of coconut, mango crème anglaise, and chocolate mousse, finished with a light coconut dacquoise and white chocolate ganache.

It was tropical and rich without being too heavy.

The Caramel Crankie combined caramel mousse with pistachio dacquoise and a caramel crunch that gave it the perfect texture.

We also had the blueberry scones, served with whipped Icelandic butter and two types of jam. In true Afternoon Tea fashion!

The Cherry Delight lived up to its name—cherry mousse and filling on top of a white chocolate-cookie base that was both creamy and tart.

To finish it all off, there was the Dessert of the Day, which for us was a light and chewy macaron—just the right note to end on.

Champagne Add-On

And of course, the Bollinger Special Cuvée champagne took everything up a notch. Making me feel like royalty!

There are also other bubbly options available, including a non-alcoholic Blanc de Blancs, but if you’re going to splurge, this one’s worth it.
