Brauð & Co: I Tried the Famous Cinnamon Roll in Reykjavik

Home » World Travel » Iceland » Brauð & Co: I Tried the Famous Cinnamon Roll in Reykjavik

I tried the famous cinnamon roll at Brauð & Co in Reykjavík, and oh boy—that first bite could’ve ended my search for the best pastry in the world.

It’s soft, buttery, and so cinnamon-packed it practically hugs you from the inside. And yes—people rave about it for good reason.

Here is everything you need to know about the famous cinnamon roll at Brauð & Co in Reykjavik.

Brauð & Co in Reykjavik

Brauð & Co burst onto the scene in 2016 and instantly changed Reykjavik’s bakery game.

Known for their colorful storefront, buttery pastries, and small-batch baking style, they quickly earned a loyal following.

Their original spot on Frakkastígur draws lines so long it practically became a local landmark.

And yes, they do sometimes sell out of fan favorites like the cinnamon roll before noon.

If you’re heading to see Hallgrímskirkja Church, this is an easy add-on.

It’s just a quick walk from there, and the exterior art alone makes it practically famous.

The Famous Cinnamon Roll at Brauð & Co

This isn’t your average cinnamon bun either!

Brauð & Co’s “kanilsnúður” is crafted from slow-fermented dough, layered with rich cinnamon sugar filling, and baked until golden.

Crisp on the outside while staying soft and tender inside.

What makes it extra special is the remonce. It is a Danish-style mixture of butter, sugar, cinnamon, and sometimes almond paste.

This melts into the dough as it bakes, creating that signature gooey swirl.

The result is a roll that’s perfectly sweet, deeply flavorful, and balanced in texture. It’s no wonder it’s become one of the most talked-about pastries in Reykjavik.

Second Downtown Location—Same Magic

If the Frakkastígur bakery is packed (and let’s be honest, it likely will be), swing by their second spot on Austurstræti instead.

We tried cinnamon rolls from both the Frakkastígur and Austurstræti locations—identical, and equally amazing.

We tried a cinnamon roll from each location—and spoiler alert: they were exactly the same (and equally addictive).

Where is Brauð & Co.?

The original Brauð & Co is located at Frakkastígur 16, just a few minutes from Hallgrímskirkja.

Here is a map of their other locations.

Know Before You Go

    • Hours: Typically open 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily, but go early—cinnamon rolls sometimes sell out.
    • No seating: These are mostly grab-and-go spots. There are a couple of benches outside Frakkastígur, but most people take their pastries to the nearby park or waterfront.
    • What to order: The kanilsnúður (cinnamon roll), hands down. But the cardamom buns and sourdough loaves are also popular.
    • Payment: Credit cards are widely accepted—no cash needed.
