Looking for a beautiful fall getaway in Canada that’s just a short drive from New England? The Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, is a historic seaside hotel filled with charming architecture, seasonal activities, incredible dining, and plenty of ways to relax.
The Algonquin Resort in Canada
The Algonquin Resort is a historic luxury hotel located in the coastal town of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, Canada.
Originally opened in 1889, the resort is one of Canada’s oldest seaside retreats and has welcomed guests for more than 135 years, including royalty and other notable visitors.

The property is known for its impressive Tudor-style architecture, red roofs, and beautiful grounds overlooking the surrounding coastal landscape.

Today, the resort is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and offers several restaurants, a championship golf course, indoor and outdoor pools, and access to the new USVA Nordic Spa.

We spent a fall weekend at The Algonquin Resort, and I couldn’t have picked a better time to visit!

Between the colorful fall foliage, seasonal decorations, afternoon tea, and spa experiences, there was so much to enjoy without ever leaving the property.
Staying at The Algonquin Resort in the Fall
One of my favorite things about visiting The Algonquin Resort in October was seeing the property surrounded by fall foliage.
The historic red-roofed buildings looked beautiful against the changing leaves, and there were colorful pumpkin displays throughout the resort.
We spent time walking around the grounds, taking photos, and enjoying the outdoor seating areas and fire pits.

I especially loved how much there was to explore around the property. Everywhere we walked, there was another beautiful view or place to sit and relax.

If you’re planning a fall getaway in New Brunswick, I think October is a wonderful time to experience the resort.
Afternoon Tea at The Algonquin Resort
One of the experiences I was most excited about during our stay was afternoon tea!
The Algonquin Resort offers a traditional afternoon tea experience featuring a selection of sweet and savory treats paired with premium teas.

During our visit, we enjoyed a beautiful spread that highlighted local New Brunswick flavors.
One of the most interesting things we tried was Chicken Bones tea, inspired by the famous New Brunswick candy.

If you’ve never heard of Chicken Bones, they’re a local candy made with a cinnamon-flavored hard candy shell and chocolate center.
I loved that the resort incorporated something so specific to New Brunswick into the experience!
Along with the tea, we enjoyed a selection of pastries and other afternoon tea treats.
It’s a wonderful activity to add to your itinerary, especially if you’re visiting for a romantic weekend or simply want to spend a relaxing afternoon at the resort.
I recommend making reservations ahead of time, particularly on weekends.
Visiting The Algonquin Golf Course
Another experience we enjoyed during our stay was visiting The Algonquin Golf Course.
The historic golf course originally opened in 1894 and is known for its beautiful coastal scenery.
Even if you’re not an experienced golfer, the views alone make it worth checking out.

We visited the driving range, where we had the opportunity to practice our swings while enjoying the surrounding scenery.
The course offers beautiful views of Passamaquoddy Bay, making it a great place to spend part of the afternoon.

I loved having the opportunity to try something different during our stay!
If you enjoy golf, you can also book a full round at the championship course.
Dinner at Braxton’s Restaurant & Bar
After spending the day exploring the resort, we enjoyed dinner at Braxton’s Restaurant & Bar.
Located inside The Algonquin Resort, Braxton’s focuses on steakhouse favorites, seafood, and locally inspired dishes.

During our visit, we tried the Bay of Fundy scallops, which were absolutely incredible!
New Brunswick is known for its seafood, so I was excited to try a dish featuring ingredients from the surrounding region.
We also enjoyed a chocolate dessert that was easily one of the highlights of our dinner.

Everything we tried was delicious, and it was a wonderful way to finish our evening at the resort.
If you’re staying at The Algonquin Resort, I definitely recommend making time for dinner at Braxton’s.

Relaxing at USVA by-the-Sea Nordic Spa
One of the most exciting additions to The Algonquin Resort is USVA by-the-Sea, a new Nordic spa located just steps from the hotel.
We spent our final morning experiencing the spa, and it was one of my favorite parts of our weekend!
USVA offers a Nordic thermal cycle, which involves alternating between hot temperatures, cold water, and periods of relaxation.
During our visit, we enjoyed the dry sauna, steam room, outdoor heated pools, and cold plunge.

We also had the opportunity to try several restorative wellness experiences.
These included red light therapy beds, the NeuroSpa, and Pressotherapy, which uses gentle compression on your legs.
One of my favorite parts was spending time in the outdoor heated pools while enjoying the crisp fall air.
We finished our visit relaxing in the indoor lounge and Himalayan salt room.
If you love Nordic spas, I highly recommend adding USVA by-the-Sea to your New Brunswick itinerary.
Exploring St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick
While there’s plenty to do at The Algonquin Resort, I also recommend taking some time to explore the nearby town of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea.
This beautiful coastal destination sits along Passamaquoddy Bay, near the Bay of Fundy, and is known for its historic buildings, waterfront scenery, and small-town atmosphere.
Downtown St. Andrews is just a short distance from the resort, making it easy to spend a few hours exploring.
You can walk along Water Street, browse local shops, visit restaurants, or enjoy the views along the waterfront.
Since St. Andrews is located close to the Maine border, it’s also a great option for a weekend getaway from New England.
