But in the heart of Galway, Ireland, you’ll find Aniar, a restaurant that completely changed the way I think about food.

From the first bite to the last sip of wine, my experience here was unforgettable. Keep reading to see why I believe Aniar is the best Michelin Star restaurant in Ireland.

Aniar in Galway

I did not know before I arrived, but Galway is a party city, filled with college kids and bars roaring until the wee hours of the morning.

But right across the river in Lower Galway, things calm down quite a bit.

Restaurants and cocktail bars line Dominick St, and here you will find  Aniar Restaurant & Boutique Cookery School.

Home to the Michelin Star Chef JP McMahon, who serves up some elevated yet contemporary Irish Cuisine.

The Chef uses all locally sourced ingredients that are presented in multiple courses in their tasting menu.

Michelin Meal At Aniar

The restaurant was cozy and warm, and we were seated by the window overlooking the streets of Galway.

This was my first Michelin Star restaurant, and I was blown away from the moment I sat down.

We opted for the additional wine pairing, which was paired with the tasting menu.

The sommelier came out between each course, explaining the region and how the wine pairs well with it.

While the menu is ever-changing, I wanted to share a few special courses with you, leaving the rest to mystery.

By far my favorite course with the bizarre yet delicious Oyster Ice cream.

It was mindblowing and one of the most unique things I have ever eaten.

Other menu items include lobster, sea radish, clams, beef, arrowgrass, sea buckthorn, woodruff and so much more.

My favorite wine from the evening was the Roka Kog Blaufrankisch from Slovenia.

Unfortunately, this wine is nowhere to be found outside of Aniar unless you go to Slovenia.

I may even say, it was one of the best wines I have ever had.
