There’s nothing like biting into a buttery lobster roll in Maine, especially when it’s fresh from the coast. After traveling up and down the state and stopping at roadside lobster shacks and waterfront restaurants, I’ve rounded up the best lobster rolls in Maine to try this season.
Best Lobster Rolls in Maine
Here are my picks for the best lobster rolls in Maine, along with their locations and average prices, listed in no particular order.
I’ve personally tried every spot on this list and only included places I truly think are worth the cost.
Prices reflect what I paid during my most recent visits.
Keep in mind that lobster prices can change throughout the season depending on availability, weather, fuel costs, and demand.
1. Red’s Eats
📍 Location: Wiscasset, ME
💰 Price: $36
🦞 Best For: The most lobster meat in one roll!
Red’s Eats is a Maine icon—and for good reason.
Their lobster rolls are piled high with fresh, buttery lobster meat.
Portions are generous, often packed with what feels like a whole lobster in every roll.
The only downside is the line. During peak summer months, it’s common to wait close to an hour.
Still, once you take that first bite, it makes sense why people are willing to stand there.

They are cash only! So make sure to bring enough to try everything on the menu.
Also, do not forget to try their $1 hot dog!
2. Twelve
If you’re looking for something different in Portland, add Twelve to your list.
This dinner hot spot serves its lobster roll warm with brown butter on a croissant.

The flaky texture makes it stand out right away, while the brown butter takes it to the next level.
It’s pricey, but the flavors make it worth it!
3. McLoons Lobster Shack

I could see the lobster boats bobbing in the water while I waited for my order.

Just look at the size of that claw!
Also, don’t forget a whoopee pie, they have one of the biggest I have seen!
