$10 Negronis? Here’s Why Everyone Loves Caffe Dante in NYC

If you love Negronis, run—don’t walk—to Dante in NYC’s Greenwich Village!

This iconic Italian-style bar is known for its award-winning cocktails, but what really caught my attention was their Negroni Hour.

Every day from 3 to 5 PM, you can sip one of the city’s best Negronis for just $10. In a city where cocktails often run north of $20, that’s a rare find. Here is a look into my visit to Caffe Dante in Greenwich Village.

Dante NYC in Greenwich Village

I’d heard about Dante being one of the hottest cocktail spots in NYC for years, so I knew we had to fit it into our busy weekend schedule.

With only a few hours before our Fourth of July fireworks cruise, we headed to Greenwich Village for Negroni Hour. A deal too good to pass up.

But before we get to the $10 Negronis (we’ll get there in a second), let’s talk about what makes Dante such a legendary spot.

Dante first opened its doors in 1915 as a neighborhood café serving Italian immigrants in Greenwich Village.

Over the years, it’s evolved into a global cocktail destination — one that’s managed to hold onto its old-world charm while staying ahead of modern trends.

In 2019, it was named the World’s Best Bar by The World’s 50 Best Bars, and it’s been drawing crowds ever since.

Whether you’re here for brunch, a nightcap, or their famous aperitivo hour, Dante is the place to go!

Negroni Hour at Caffe Dante

Negroni Hour at Caffe Dante runs daily from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and features a curated list of signature Negronis for just $10 each.

In a city where craft cocktails often go for $18–$22, this feels like a rare win.

Especially when it’s coming from one of the best cocktail bars in the world.

We showed up right at 3:00 with a reservation, which I definitely recommend making.

Caffe Dante in Greenwich Village is small and gets busy quickly, especially on weekends and holidays.

The vibe inside felt like a true Italian café! It was open, relaxed, and filled with the clink of cocktail shakers and the smell of citrus and espresso.

The $10 Negronis We Tried

I am not going to lie I have never been a fan of Negronis! But I really wanted to try to be more open to them, and I am so glad I did.

This was the best negoni I ever had and changed my outlook on them.

Maybe we got a little carried away, but when the Negronis are this good and only $10, how can you not try a few?

Mezcalito

We started with the Mezcalito!

A smoky, bittersweet twist on the classic, made with Su Casa mezcal, Faccia Brutto aperitivo, Mancino ambrato and secco, and orange bitters.

It had depth without being overpowering and was a perfect start to the afternoon.

Chocolate Negroni

Next, I went for the Chocolate Negroni, which might be one of the most unique cocktails I’ve ever had.

It blends Botanist gin, Campari, Punt e Mes, crème de cacao, and chocolate bitters.

It was rich, a little bitter, a little sweet — basically a Negroni dessert in a glass.

Negroni Bianco

Finally, the Negroni Bianco was a total standout.

Made with Brooklyn Gin, quinquina, Alessio Bianco, Carpano Dry, lemon bitters, and verjus.

It was crisp, floral, and a little tart! I also loved the baby’s breath they added on top!

What We Ordered from the Brunch Menu

Since it was the Fourth of July, Dante was still serving brunch when we arrived, and I’m so glad they were.

We were hungry, but most of the tables around us were just ordering $10 Negronis — so food is definitely optional.

The Creamy Breakfast Burrata

We started with the Breakfast Burrata, which came with black cherries, vanilla, and a slice of toasted cranberry and pecan sourdough.

It was light and creamy, with a nice balance of sweet and savory.

Huevos Rancheros Verde

Then came the Huevos Rancheros Verde — homemade corn tortillas piled with crispy bacon, tomatillo salsa, queso fresco, avocado, cebolla, cilantro, and two fried eggs.

It was flavorful, filling, and totally hit the spot before our afternoon on the water.

Of Course, We Had to Try the Tiramisu

You can’t come to Dante and not order the tiramisu — it’s one of their most famous desserts for a reason.

Served in a chilled glass with layers of mascarpone cream, espresso-soaked ladyfingers, and a generous dusting of cocoa on top, it looked as good as it tasted.

And let me just say: this was hands down the best tiramisu I’ve ever had.

It was perfectly balanced — not too sweet, with just the right amount of bitterness from the espresso.

Also, the portion size is huge!

Bonus: Dante West Village Offers Martini Hour

We visited the original Caffe Dante in Greenwich Village. The historic spot that first opened in 1915 and helped put this bar on the map.

But if you’re more of a martini fan, it’s worth knowing that their West Village Location also runs a daily happy hour called Martini Hour, during the same 3:00 to 5:00 PM window.

Instead of Negronis, the West Village menu features a $10 martini lineup with creative spins on the classic.

It’s a great alternative if you’re looking for a slightly different vibe (or want an excuse to try both).

Where Is Dante NYC?

The original location, which is the one we visited, is located on Macdougal Street in Greenwich Village.
