New York City is full of winter treats, but Glace hot chocolate has become one of the most talked-about stops during the colder months. I visited Glace’s main flagship location on the Upper East Side to see if it really lives up to the hype. Keep reading to find out whether the hot chocolate is worth it!
The Famous Glace Hot Chocolate in NYC
Glace is one of those places that shows up everywhere during the holidays.
Photos of thick chocolate being poured into cups and lines wrapping around the block have made it one of the most recognizable hot chocolate spots in New York City.

With multiple locations around the city, including Rockefeller Center, the Upper East Side flagship is considered the original and most popular place to try it.
Glace in NYC is famous for its European-style hot chocolate that is made by putting the marshmallow on the outside of the cup.

The Hot Chocolate at the Upper East Side Flagship
We decided to walk from Bryant Park all the way up to the Upper East Side flagship location.
And honestly, the walk was part of the experience.
We passed beautiful brownstone stoops decorated for the holidays and walked alongside Central Park.

When we arrived, the line was already wrapped around the block, but it moved faster than expected.
We waited about 45 minutes total, which felt reasonable considering how busy it was.

I ordered the Smores hot chocolate, and we also tried the Salted Caramel. Watching them make each drink was mesmerizing.
They place a large marshmallow into the cup, then slowly pour the hot chocolate over it until it melts down into the drink.
The result is rich, indulgent, and definitely meant to be savored.

The Smores had a deep chocolate flavor with that classic marshmallow sweetness, while the Salted Caramel added a slightly savory note that balanced everything out really well.
Glace Rockefeller Center Location
Glace also has a location near Rockefeller Center, and while I have heard great things, I have also heard the lines there can be significantly longer, especially during the peak holiday season.
Because of that, I would personally recommend visiting the Upper East Side flagship location instead.
The walk is beautiful and you still get the full Glace experience without the chaos of Midtown crowds.
Glace Upper East Side Location
I visited the Upper East Side location, located close to Central Park and the Met, making it an easy stop while exploring the neighborhood.
