Glamping at Repère Boréal in Quebec – A Forest Retreat

I never expected to glamp in a shipping container during a snowstorm, but that’s exactly what happened when I stayed at Repère Boréal in Charlevoix, Quebec.

For two nights, we cozied up in the Shiship Cabin, watched the snowfall from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and visited the outdoor Nordic spa. I also cooked with fresh local ingredients and soaked in the quiet beauty of winter in Charlevoix, while sipping coffee around the fire.

If you’re looking for a unique winter getaway in Quebec, here’s what it’s really like to stay at Repère Boréal, in the middle of a snowstorm.

Repère Boréal in Quebec

Located in Charlevoix, Quebec, Repère Boréal is an eco-friendly retreat designed for nature lovers who crave comfort.

This isn’t just a typical cabin rental in Charlevoix—it’s a collection of modern, minimalist accommodations in the great outdoors.

From shipping container cabins to elevated treehouses, each stay is built to offer a mix of seclusion and adventure.

I first discovered Repère Boréal while searching for unique places to stay in Quebec, and as soon as I saw the Shiship Cabin, I knew I had to book it.

Not only is the stay affordable, thanks to the US conversion rate, but its also a once in a lifetime opportunity.

A Snowy Arrival to My Cozy Container Cabin

Right before our visit, Charlevoix was hit with its biggest snowstorm of the year, dumping over a foot of fresh snow.

Fortunately, the roads were cleared just in time for our five-hour drive to Quebec, where we would stop overnight.

The next morning, we made the two-hour drive from Quebec City to Charlevoix, arriving just before another storm rolled in.

As we pulled into Repère Boréal, snow started falling rapidly, covering the grounds in a white blanket.

Within an hour, we were in a full whiteout—but honestly, I couldn’t think of a better place to be snowed in.

We drove to the Shiship Cabin , tucked away at the back of the property up a snowy hill.

The cabin is a sleek shipping container that has been completely redone into a glamping experience.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the second I stepped inside, I knew I’d made the right choice.

The space was warm, modern, and surprisingly roomy. Large windows framed the snowy forest outside, and the minimalist wood interior gave it the perfect mix of rustic and modern.

The shower in the bathroom featured a window with a perfect view of the outdoors, letting you soak in the scenery while showering.

But the real star of the show? The bed. It was unbelievably comfortable—I sank right into it!

With the snow falling outside and the cabin’s warm design, it was the perfect spot to relax and unwind.

We dropped our bags and got cozy in the cabin, listening to music while watching the snow fall outside the window.

All while enjoying a glass of one of Quebec’s delicious wines.

The Perfect Snowy Morning at Repère Boréal

The storm was bad all night, the wind was pounding the windows and the snow was piling up. But we never once got scared or lost power, despite the blizzard.

I can honestly say that waking up to this view was beyond amazing. It was the perfect way to start the day—cozying up with a book and watching the snowfall.

The storm stopped for a bit, so we stepped outside and were amazed by the massive amount of snow that had piled up around the cabin.

Cooking Breakfast with Local Ingredients

One of my favorite parts about staying at Repère Boréal was the chance to cook in our cabin using fresh, local ingredients.

We stopped by their on-site market and grabbed fresh farm eggs, local bacon, creamy butter, and a bag of Quebec-roasted coffee—basically everything we needed for the perfect cozy breakfast.

The Shiship Cabin comes with a small but well-equipped kitchenette, making it easy to cook up a delicious meal while staying warm inside.

Nothing beats the smell of bacon sizzling on the stove as snow piles up. I was even able to crack the window, letting the fresh winter air come through.

Repère Boréal’s Nordic Spa

Another reason I loved this place? The outdoor Nordic spa.

Even though it was below freezing outside, stepping into a steaming hot tub while surrounded by a snow-covered forest was pure magic.

They also have a wood-fired sauna, which is the perfect way to warm up after spending time in the snow.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t working during our stay—mostly due to the storm—but I’d definitely recommend trying it if you visit.

There’s a cold plunge too, but I’ll be honest—I wasn’t brave enough to try it.

Standing outside in my bathing suit in 0-degree weather with high winds already felt like a cold plunge. Maybe next time!

Meeting the Friendly Farm Animals

One of the unexpected highlights of my stay at Repère Boréal was discovering the adorable farm animals on the property.

After the storm passed and it was safe to wander around, we made my way toward the check-in area and on-site store, where we found a small group of rabbits and goats enjoying the fresh snow.

These animals roam in their designated space but are incredibly friendly—and if they’re in the mood, they even let visitors, like us, pet them.

Morning Coffee by the Fire

By our second morning, the snowstorm had passed, revealing the most breathtaking winter scenery.

We finally got to light the outdoor fire pit, something I had been looking forward to since I arrived.

Bundled up with a steaming cup of coffee, we sat by the fire and watched the sun peak through the trees—easily one of my favorite moments of the trip.

Later, that night we got to visit a local restaurant that truly blew my mind!

Next Time? I’m Sleeping in the Trees!

While I loved the Shiship Cabin, I couldn’t stop thinking about Repère Boréal’s UHU cabin—a futuristic treehouse built 33 feet up in the trees.

With a spiral staircase, bridge, and insane views of the Saint Lawrence River.

If (let’s be real—when) I come back, I know exactly where I’ll be staying.
